Barbie-like Toys for a Boy

My son will be two in a few weeks. He loves to play with my daughter and all of her Barbie stuff. Just wondering if you have any suggestions of toys that are similar to Barbie stuff but are made for boys. I don't mind that he plays with her Barbies and accessories. For the most part, she doesn't mind either, but I would like to get some things for his room like she has in hers. He got a few Playmobil things for Christmas, but it is just not the same. Ideas? Thanks.

What can I do next?

How about a Ken doll to play with her Barbies? Or you can get a GI Joe doll, get it doll size like a Barbie size..12" I think. My son likes to play barbies with his sister too and he is 7 but he always wants the Ken doll. Most Barbie things like the cars, etc are pink so maybe you could get a GI Joe tank, motorcycle, helicopter, etc Just go to the boy's section or go on amazon.com to boy toys and see what they have and if not, get a ken doll.

I bet you can still the classic GI Joe on ebay. When I was a kid (late 60s/70s), all the boys had one. And they all had many, many outfits too. Plus, they were the same size as Ken, but the knees and elbows bent...

My son is four and loves the Imaginex Batcave and characters. It has different rooms liek a dollhouse and each character has it's own props, etc for pretend play. My 2 year old daughter LOVES to play with it too. The only thing it doesn't have is clothes that you can change (like a Barbie would). If he's nto into batman, Imaginex has several other sets- a castle, pirates, etc.

My kids both LOVE to play with each other's toys. We accept and encourage it!

Good luck!

What about Ken =) Of course there are all the action figures like GI Joe or stuff like that, but I suspect he likes the clothes too dressing up the dolls. So if it was me I would probably just do some Ken's with a few Barbies.

The Toy Story action figures include the whole cast- Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie- and they are fun for both boys and girls!

there are full size gi joe action figures (the size and pretty much same shape as a ken doll) that you can get extra outfits for. but unless he is into the clothign aspect just the figures themselves will work. my sons also loved the teenage mutant ninja turtles and bat man figures

Well, GI Joe is in stores and so are a number of action figures for Star Wars, Marvel Comics super heroes and that type of thing. My boys are 2 and 4 and LOVE the Imaginext stuff -Batcave, Space Shuttle, Pirate ship -they all come with little figures. Just be careful with the Playmobil stuff for your son's age. My 4 year old loves it and so does my 2 year old, but we didn't get him any for Christmas because so many of the parts are SO tiny! He's not bad about putting stuff into his mouth, but it still worried me. He does play with his brother's Playmobil stuff, but someone is always around. When my oldest was 2 and 3 he LOVED Barbies and princess stuff. My 2 year old loves baby dolls and has one he carries around. He's so sweet patting its back in a comforting way! I say get him his own Barbie and Ken or a GI Joe or something or just let him keep playing with his sister's stuff. Social norms creep in soon enough and he'll probably not want to play with it anymore in a few years.

Jennifer:

My brother had 12" G.I. Joe's to play with my Barbie's - as Barbie HAD to have a "strong man" to protect her!! :)

Ken is also available. You can still get 12" G.I.'s...

GI Joe has some tall barbie size dolls, and if you can find them they came out with a few yrs ago Indiana Jones dolls that were the same size as barbies.

My brother had the Barbie sized Han Solo and Luke Skywalker- lol, we always stole them to be Barbie's boyfriends because they were better than Ken!

The Toy Story figures are about that size and GI Joe- my brother had a GI Joe and we played all sorts of games together with our people being all sorts of 'characters' we came up with.

I cannot think what they are called, but I have gotten a few toys for my son that are like the Barbie toys, but for boys. You can find them for sure at Toys R Us. They are usually a Barbie-sized boy action figure and an animal -- like a dinosaur or an elephant, etc. They are like explorer toys. The action figure and the animal come in one package. Just like the Barbies, though, you might have to pull a few things from the package that could pose a choking hazard for a two-year old.

I have some barbie size Star Trek action figures that you can remove the clothes on (which led to some funny breaking into a friends house to dress hers in dresses....but that's another story) so I'm sure you can find others like that. I think GI Joe used to have these sort of dolls. If nothing else, there's always Ken.

get him a ken doll. or an old gi joe. from the 70s on the gi joes or wrestling action figures. and get him a truck instead of a corvette so what if its a girls toy he will never know the diffrence. I think its sexist saying boys cant play with girls toys. I got mine a shopping cart for christmas and that is sold in the girls section. but boys dont shop come on. its just a toy and its better than a doll stroller. but the same thing. :)

My son had an older sister so he was very well versed in the whole Barbie thing. He really enjoyed his G.I. Joe's. He still has his Navy Seal G.I. Joe. It came with a boat and a wetsuit, goggles and fins. He loved playing with it in the bathtub. Even though I come from a military family, he wasn't fixated on the "soldier" aspect of things. He just enjoyed them as toys.

Best wishes.

My sons love their Build a Bears. They have tons of clothes and accessories for them, they even have strollers for their bears as well as backpacks to carry them around in. My kids play for ages with their bears.
