Baptism Outfit for Baby Boy

My boys wore white dress shirts and dark dress pants. Our priest actually said the transformation into baptism is symbolized with the baptismal garmet so a white outfit is not necessary(not sure if all churches use these though).

nothing wrong with it. my brother's son outfit was something like what you're planning. There are traditions people love to stick to, but there are some that just don't make sense. this is one of those.

i personally don't see anything wrong with a tie and khaki pants with a sweater but if your church is more traditional some may have an opinion. I think the important thing is that you are comfortable with it regardless of whether or not others like/ accept your style. Remember who's most important: God first then your family, then others.

Of course, your idea is fine! Also, you could get him a little white suit. There are listings on Ebay for suits that could work. (some keywords to try: baby, wedding, babptism , suit). Just find something both you and your husband will like...God wont be judging any of you by his outfit! : )

I got a white tuxedo for my son. I found it at a store in the Brooklyn Center Mall...can't recall the name of the store, but it's right outside of where Macy's used to be. They have all kinds of suits for little babies and I found mine on clearance for $19 - around this time of year actually.

I think it best to error on the side of tradition (white). Like one poster said if your son is still small in Feb. why not put him in a white/cream footed outfit? We have a VERY inexpensive embroidery shop (Chaska, MN)that does beautiful linen bibs... you could have a cross put on it and it would make the whole outfit more formal. Just a thought. no my daughter wore just a spring dress and my son wore the white silk pant suit which I do not recommend it will get dirty the moment you put it on.

Of course it is not wrong! You may dress him how you want - pending what is appropriate in your church. My sons were dressed in white sleepers and wrapped in a handmade, white baby blanket afghan. Whatever you are comfortable with.

my son wore a little sailor suit, light blue with white trim...I also had a white all in one cable knit sweater outfit I had fouind him on eBay, but it was too warm that day, he wore it at Christmas, though.

My boys both wore a traditional baptismal gown that has been handed down from my great grandma. Each mother has added to it and mended it. It is made out of very fine cotton that has aged to a beautiful ivory/cafe color. I thought due to the tradition of it and because it wasn't made out of the glaring white stain stuff they sell today, that it worked fine for boys.

How old will your son be in February? If still basically newborn, I might opt for a very nice pair of white footed pajamas. He will look sweet AND be comfortable.

Makes me smile- I just went through this with my husband 2 weeks ago. My daughter used a baptismal gown that has been handed down through 3 generations- gorgeous, very simple but still a "gown"- my husband was not thrilled about it. If my son had been a newborn, it might have been ok with him but he is almost 1 yr. At the last minute we put him in khaki pants, white button down shirt and wrapped a white chrocheted blanket around him during the baptism- no one cared and you couldn't see his clothes then anyway. Whatever you decide will be just fine.

burlington coat factory has a great selection of little boys baptism outfits- would he be okay if it was a suit looking outfit instead of a gown? check it out online if there's not one nearby! (otherwise, the outfit you describe is just fine too - it's his day!)

I think your outfit choice is fine. we are going to baptize our son in the gown that our daughter wore.

I'm not sure if you are Catholic or Protestant, but I know in the Catholic church the white garment is symbolic of the purity of baptism, but most of the churches actually provide a white baptismal garment, which is really nothing more than a bib/smock that you put over their clothes. If this is the case at your church, it really doesn't matter what your son is wearing. If not, he could slways wear a nice white shirt with his khakis. God certainly won't care.

I didn't like the traditional options for my son, either. He was either wearing a dress or a very elaborate white tux sort of thing. Neither seemed reasonable to me. My son wore a light-blue sailor suit, and it was adorable. Good luck.

My son was 1 when he was baptized and he wore khaki pants, sweater vest with a blue button up collared shirt underneath and a nice pair of black dress shoes. He looked adorable. I think you should do whatever you feel is best.

I totally agree with you on the silky outfits for boys. We shopped around and were able to find a cotton outfit that was traditional but not tacky at Baby Grand. Otherwise I think anything that's mostly white or even light blue is appropriate. With all the Easter clothes coming out you should be able to find something adorable.

When our younger son was baptized it was summer, and we put him in a white polo shirt and khaki shorts, and he looked adorable. You should go with your idea.

We are Lutheran (Protestant) and, while our boys wore the traditional white, my mother-in-law made the gown and it's really girly. I almost had our 2nd wear a really cute sweater outfit my sister got him (my oldest was in the ER at the time, getting stitches; I was hoping "Oh, it's just too busy" would be enough to not have to change him...sigh...it wasn't) but he wound up in the girly outfit again. If we have a third, I might hold my ground more. Yes, it's symbolic, and if you go to a more formal church, you might want to check to make sure you're not offending anyone, but I know in my church it would not be a big deal at all. Even our pastors didn't baptize their children in white satiny gowns. :)

My boys wore a white, matching pants and jacket/top from one of the common baby clothes manufacturers (maybe Carter?). My reasoning was more budget-related since the baptismal gowns are so expensive and we didn't have one in the family. I think any outfit that looks respectful is fine, at least in our church, but I did want to go with traditional white even if it wasn't a gown. Have a nice baptism.
