Band-aid Irritation? Hmmmm

my son reacts to everything but bandaid brand. try some benadryl on the rash. gl

I never had problems with band aids until I had my first knee surgery. It was arthroscopic so I covered the dots with band aids. Every since then I have an allergy to the adhesive in band aids. At least that is what my orthopedic surgeon said. Apparently I am not the first to have this happen. If I change a band aid every six hours or so and change the direction I won't get the rash. If I don't I will get a rash in the exact shape of the band aid.

My son has the same issue. We switched to gauze pads affixed with medical tape and it worked out fine.

I'm allergic to the adhesive in band aids and duct tape... you shouldn't cover burns anyway (unless it's an open wound)... keep up with the neosporin but let it breathe :)

Discontinue use and take some Benadryl if it starts itching like crazy!

It sounds like you are having a reaction to the adhesive or the composition in the band-aid...do you have a latex intolerance? If so - read the label on the box for the band-aids and see what they are made of.

Take a benadryl to help with the itching and switch out band-aids.

My daughter is allergic to the adhesive in band-aids. She will get the worst rash from them. I use gauze, Neosporin and the white tape when she needs it. I also have a little first aid pack that goes with her to school. They put a band- aid on her even after she asked them not to.
Maybe there was already something on the center part. Some of them already have Neosporin on them.
I would just keep it clean and uncovered. Try not to use lotion and becareful of your soaps in that area.

My husband has a scar from a bandaid burn on his back from when he had a mole removed. It's the perfect shape of a bandaid. Certain latex can be very irritating to skin.

I am allergic to the adhesive part. I cant leave a bandaid on for longer then 5 minutes. Maybe your bandaid was old?

Happens to me all the time.
Only on sensitive areas though-arms being one of them.
Doesn't seem to matter what brand I use.
It always goes away eventually...

It may be simple irritation from leaving the band aid on for so long without your skin being able to breathe.
However, I am actually allergic to the adhesive. Everytime I have to go into the hospital, they put an arm band on me that states that because for any surgical procedures or wound dressing, they use a different kind of tape.
Now, many labs don't even use band aids anymore after blood draws, etc. They use that meshy stuff that sticks to itself and has no adhesive. I can't think of what it's called, but you can buy it by the roll. Ask your pharmacist about it and keep some in your first aid kit.

I would suggest keeping the area dry and keeping a band aid off of it. The rash should clear up on it's own.

I have a friend who is allergic to the adhesive on bandaids, never had it before and suddenly she has a terrible reaction. Maybe they changed the way they make them.
