Balmex Application Tips
Well, my 5 month old has a slight diaper rash and I now remember what I hate about Balmex, putting it on their but! The one in the tube isn't asthick and doesn't work well as the stuff in the tub. So I'm asking you guys for your tips and hints...how do I get Balmex from the tub it comes in onto my little ones backside without getting it under all my nails and all over my fingers? It ain't easy to wash off! (which is probably why it works so good!)
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone! I got soem gloves, but ended up also trying some of the squeeze lotions recommended.

I know you got a ton of answers but CVS sells disposable plastic gloves (like at the doctor office) or use a cloth rag.

Well, I use one finger, and after wiping on my daughter's tushie, I wipe the rest of the balmex onto the new diaper!
And I keep my nails kind of short...
Good Luck!

Try Johnson's no more rash! It works so well it was incredible better than Balmex, Desitin, & A&D. It is thick but not as messy as Balmex plus it should work very fast so you won't have to use it all the time!
The Butt Paste stuff works great too (it is Boudreaux's Butt Paste) yellow tube with a funny looking cartoon baby on it.

You already got a ton of advice but my Pediatrician recommended Triple Paste when my daughter had a bad diaper rash (nothing else worked - even the Butt Paste). It's a little more expensive than some of the others but it is absolutely the best. A little goes a long way and it took care of her rash very quickly.

Forget the Balmex. You should try to stay away from chemical diaper creams. they really dont work all that well & they can actually cuase more irritation. Try Calendula cream or ointment instead. it is natural and is a first sid cream that you can find in Whole Foods or any Narural Foods Store. It works great on diaper rash, & other iritaitons like bug bites or sunburn. If you get it on your hands, it's no big deal, just rub it on or simply wipe it off.

i do nails for a living, so I have LONG acrylics. I always use my knuckle and have an extra wipey to wipe it all off. Get a bag of either tongue depressors or pop sticks in a beauty or craft store and use them to srape the bottom of the jar, good luck!

Hi P.,
I've had luck appling thick creams with a round foundation (make-up)sponge. You can get a whole package for not much money in the cosmetics section of most stores.
Good Luck!

I use Desitin in the purple box. It comes in a tube and is easy to apply. Works wonders!! You can easily squirt some on and put it with the diaper and never have to touch it. Goodluck!

Have you tried wearing a disposable glove while applying the balmex ? You can get them fairly cheap at Wal-mart and they come in both the latex and non latex variety.
Good luck

I never really cared for Balmex. I was always liked the A&D ointment not the zinc oxide cream. the ointment provides a better barrier for their little bottoms so they can heal faster.

Desetin comes in a creamy form or theres butt paste which is creamy and works better than anything else out there in my opinion. I use rubber gloves to apply anything to my kids tushes, before I was a mom I was a nurse and it just seems like the more hygenic thing to do, maybe you could try that.

I too can't stand to get it under my nails, so I simply use a baby wipe to put it on. It works great and is nice and convenient since they are right there on the changing table.
Hope that helps.

use cotton balls or i have used the tubes of Desitin and used the diaper to spread it around. Also during summer that rash can be heat rash not diaper rash try a little caldesan powder or baby goldbond. And if all else fail try soem clthe diapers with no rubber pants. This requires checking more often. My two year old loves his "wear wear". the thick ones. Good Luck :)

P.,
I use my index finger and just keep the nail really short. I wipe cream that doesn't stick to the babies bottom on the diaper and finally use a wipe - baby wipe - to clean off the remaining cream. The key to the cream sticking to the baby is a dry bottom.
Good luck and if you need more tips on getting rid of diaper rash I have them. My daughter had bad diaper rash at 3 months and I had a whole regimen to go thru to get rid of it.
