We are thinking about getting our soon to be 3-year-old a balance bike. I don't know much about them, but I know you can use them at a very young age. Does anyone have suggestions of a favorite type of balance bike? Or, any other bikes that may help with a boy struggling with pedals in general.

For both of our boys we got used bikes at the thrift store for less than $10(they need to be light ones, not Shwin), unscreewed the pedals off(just the top dedal part not the whole thing ) Both of our our boys learned to balance within 2 days and wanted the pedals ons. Our youngest was not even 3.
It's the most painless, stress free way to teach a child how to ride a bike.
The ammount that those balance bikes cost is crazy.

I didn't want to spend the money on another bike. We simply took the pedals off my son's bike and presto! It's a balance bike. He was barely four. We had him practice on it for about 15 minutes and day and after a week we added the pedals back on. 10 minutes later he was cruising up and down the sidewalk. Breaking took about 30 minutes to master. Worked like a charm without an added expense.

Hi! I'm not sure what a Balance Bike is, but if it is a bike with no pedals, YES, get it! The best way for kids to learn how to ride a bike is by using these. They've got to learn how to balance first. The can scoot around and glide down slow slopes holding their feet out. They will get the feel for balancing quickly. Training wheels do nothing but get them dependent on them.
There is also a bike called a Strider, but we just took the pedals off of my sons' bikes. Then, once they got the feel for balancing, we put them back on. Both my boys were riding a 2 wheeler at 3 years old. We always advise our friends to teach their kids this way. Have fun!

My girls have loved theirs! They got them when they were two. At first they just "walk" the bike but then learn to push off further and further as they get more coordinated.

We got our son a balance bike for his 3rd birthday. It has been wonderful. He got the balance part down in about a week and now he cruises on it. He is on the smaller side so when we were looking for a bike we made sure to check the dimensions. Some bikes were too tall for him even with the seat at the lowest position. After a little investigating we got him a Strider from Amazon. Love it!
