My favorite alternative is ice cream cones... Use the ones with the flat bottoms, stand them up in the muffin tin, and fill the ice cream cones with the cake batter and bake. If you mound, or pipe on a lot of frosting, they end up looking like an ice cream cone.
As a plus, kids seem to love these, and because it is all edible you don't have to worry about little ones eating paper!
Just a thought...Hope it helps! :)

M.,

I don't know if they qualify as cupcake wrappers but I've used foil shaped things the last couple of times I made cupcakes. They are like tiny foil pans and they are shaped like something. At Halloween I found ghost shaped ones and I've used another shape that I can't think of right now. They are really cool. I don't know if that is what you are looking for? If you don't want to use a wrapper at all, you can grease and flour the cupcake pan the same way you do a regular cake pan and not use a wrapper at all. Hope that helps!

Dear M.,

Just spray the cup cake pans, or put some shortening on a napkin and smear it in the cup cake spaces. I know - those cup cake holders do make a mess when the children take them off. C. N.

Hi M....

Brylanehome.com's kitchen section has silicone baking cups. You dont even need a muffin tin..just place the baking cups on a cookie sheet, fill, bake. When your ready to eat just peel off, and they pop in the dish washer ready for the next time. They are FANTASTIC. Have fun

if you spray the pan with non-stick spray and then coat it with flour or dry cake mix then you don't need the wrappers..

You can use a muffin pan to bake the cones in just to prevent them from falling over....

Just what Heather said. The liners are just to make it easier for you to frost and serve them. Their more for decrotive purpose than anything else. I usually use the liners when making cakes or muffins, but not brownies. For brownies I either use "Pam for Baking" or spray and flour. (I sometimes use powdered sugar instead of flour.) The flour should be used any time you're baking a cake because it gives the cake something to hold onto while it rises. Spray only causes the high centers with the low edges. Hope it helps~ J.

Try using ice cream cones instead. You fill them up 2/3 full and put them in the cupcake pan and bake like normal. and watch the kids faces and they eat their ice cream cupcakes. And you can even put a scoop of real ice cream on top once it cools enough. I used to do this for my daughter when she was in elementary school and it was a huge hit with the kids. And the teachers like it as well no mess to clean up. It is all self contained. And you can decorate them easier no frosting spreaders necesary.

You just need to put them on a cookie sheet. Be sure not to fill them too high only about half way. I put the cookiesheet in the oven first and then carefully put them on. Good Luck...
