Bad Rash on or Around Neck Area

Hello Moms,
My 16 month old has a rash on her neck going up into her scalp alittle. It isn't anywhere else..like her chest or back. She sweats alot, could that have caused it. Of course she itches but it hasn't spread should I be worried.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks to everyone's advice. I have used corn starch and also cetaphil over the counter. It has cleared it up. I also have been keeping the area dry because she does sweat alot and it has helped. I just want to thank everyone because I really was worried but if it comes back and doesn't go away then I will bring her to the pediatrician. Thanks again everyone

Hi Sifi,

It is so scary when we see a rash. What color is the rash? Is it red and angry looking? (possibly prickly heat), Red and oozing? Was she exposed to the outdoors? (could be poison ivy...)...Red and bumpy?Kind of dry/sandy feeling? (could be eczema)...Have you changed soap? Washed clothes in something new? (could be reaction to soap). Take her to the drs. At the very least they can tell you that it is not contagious. Maybe they can give you a cream...I got one for DS'eczema. Tell us what happens! Good luck! {{HUGS}} we have been there...she will be fine!

Hi S.,
No dont be worried. And yes her sweating alot will cause the rash. My son went through this. Go to the store and buy baby powder with corn starch. that will do the trick

S.,
Please have your daughter checked for Lyme disease if the rash doesn't go away soon and if you've spent anytime outdoors in the grass. I know from experience, we just had our girl treated for it and she's doing fine.

It could also be prickly heat which is caused by clogged sweat pours and often shows on the chest, back, neck and face area. Its very common esecially in the warmer weather, but you may want to check with the doctor to be on the safe side.

my now 3 year old and my 5 month old always get those. those are because of all the moisture(the milk, saliva, sweat and so on) try washing the area with Aveeno for sensitive skin and then putting some a&d ointment. if should repel the water and moisture. do not use baby powder, my daughters' pediatrician told me that baby powder retains the moisture. good luck and if it gets worse or you are really concerned, go to the doctor. better safe than sorry.

Yes it could be from sweat. My daughter would get a rash on her neck when she was little from sweat, saliva, formula, basically liquids that would happen to run down her neck and maybe stay in the creases. If you keep the area dry it should clear up soon.

Hello S.,

My son gets a red rash in the crease of his neck and behind his neck also. I have taken him to the pediatrician over this and they said it is due to moisture in the creases. They suggested that I apply cortisone ointment (not the cream) 2x a day. I do this and it is gone almost immediately. I hope this helps!

Sounds like it could be eczema, but I would take her to the pediatrician just to make sure.
