Bad Cough - Davenport,FL
Does anyone know a surefire way to get rid of a bad cough? I had a cold last week and now this ligering, annoying cough that I
can't get rid of. I've been drinking plenty of hot tea with lemon and honey and thought it was getting better yesterday but this cough
has kept me up all night. Also taking cough medicine and cough drops but nothing seems to be helping. I'm also flying this Friday and would hate to have this on a plane!!!!
Any ideas would be helpful
TIA
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone, I will try everything like stopping the lemon and continuing with the honey and warm liquids.

Since Christmas I have been dealing with a L. chest congestion and a cough. Finally, I bought some Mucinex DM and then drank a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of honey before bed. For the first time, I wasn't up coughing all night, and the Mucinex is amazing! Don't buy the generic stuff buy the brand name. It is pricey but worth it. I bought a small box of 14 for $11.99.

You should use a humidifier if you are not doing so already, it will help by keeping your air moist, esp at night.

There is one Peruvian Indian one i know of. You take your clothes off in the shower. Stand there and wipe down with a certain alcoholic spirit (I can't remember which one). You go from head to toes. You let it air dry and put your pajamas on WITH socks and get into bed with the covers on till morning. Worked on every kid I know in 1-2 days AFTER WEEKS OF COUGHING!

Have you tried just mixing honey with water? Yes, the cough always lingers after a cold. For me, lemon is too irritating so I just resort to honey and water. 3 tablespoons of honey into a cup of warm water, repeated 2/3 times a day should do the trick. (It's a family secret lol)

Keep doing what you are doing w/the honey, tea (or warm water) & lemon
At night, try to elevate your head a bit w/pillows under your head.
On the plane it can prove to be more difficult because of the re-circulated
air. See if you can bring a couple of small honey packets w/you to mix
w/warm water you can ask for from the Flight Attendants. Also, continue
to drink lots of water.
Bring honey flavored cough drops to help stave off a tickle in your throat
that can induce a cough.
Good luck!

Ask doc about doing a nebulizer treatment. That is often the only way I can get the goo out that is causing the coughs.
Abuterol in the sterile vials is only $4 at Walmart and the nebulizer can be rented from a medical supply place, insurance should cover it.

Could also be Sinusitis from which you are suffering.. that which started out as a cold is now turned into an infection and hence you've got a cough.. Also, keep in mind, while citrus PRIOR to a cold can help alleviate and possibly deter a cold, once you have one.. sometimes, the citrus can actually irritate rather than help matters.. Therefore, you may want to stop using that for the time being.. Some time ago, I too thought I had a lingering cold when it turned out, I did... but the cold triggered the sinus issues.. you may want to see an ENT if your cough doesn't get better..

Delsym (NOT generic) is tried and true in our house, if it's JUST a cough.
Feel better!!
