Bad Breath - Columbus,OH

My husband has boughts of bad breath. Last weekend it was really bad, as in he left the room and the smell didn't. He walked up to me last Saturday and it was so bad the I jumped back. I need to get him to see a doctor. Is there any sort of specialist I should seek out. I just don't want it to become an issue for him that could effect his job.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thanks for all you concerns. My husband is not an alcoholic and has never been. His works for a local utility company and they have manditory drug testing. He has already been to the dentist and he does not have gum disease. If it's his diet how come no one else in the house has the same problem. We all eat the same thing? I had an appointment scheduled for the doctor but work got in the way.

if he doesn't brush or scrub his tongue when he brushes his teeth, he should start - that helps a lot - or get him a tongue scaper. If it isn't anything serious.

It might be gum disease. It has a very distinct smell. I would make an appointment with a general dentist first to see if it is gum desease. If it is, then he will probably refer your husband to a Periodontist which is a gum specialist. Good luck.

Dentist. He might just need a simple teeth cleaning.

It could be gum disease. Or please don't get mad for my asking, does he drink? My ex-husband is an alcoholic, and even though he brushed his teeth well. It smelled like something died in our room. It was so bad! I never quite understood it, other than booze is really bad for the body. If that is not the case, have him discuss it with his dentist first, then his doctor. Really bad breath is a sign of trouble and he needs to fix it for his own sake.

He might need to see a dentist...and if his teeth are in good shape...then maybe a doctor. Could be something he is eating.

I had a problem in junior high and ended up having my adnoids removed.

My husband is a dentist, so I have a little background. Your husband may have periodontal disease (gum disease). I would suggest having him see a general dentist in order to diagnose. If you have any other questions, we would be happy to help!

Does he have acid reflux?
