Have any of you guys done something besides the normal lingerie shower at the bachelorette party? Something maybe a bit more creative that I could ask everyone to bring her instead of lingerie?

My sister in law is getting married and is in her 30s with 4 kiddos from before this relationship and it seems weird doing the lingerie. LOL.

Any other bachelorette party ideas that you want to share would be GREAT also. I am looking into one of those painting lessons for us to go to, but looking for other ideas if anyone has any.

THANKS!!!

for my BD, my best friend gave me a fused-glass jewelry making class. You see the stuff at most craft/art shows, but to make your own...without any prior instruction...is wonderfully fun & easy!

I loved it, & it was a BLAST! The pieces turned out sooo beautifully unique that I gave them to the ladies in my family for Christmas. My Mom had 1st pick, & then everybody else drew #s for "picking order". This was not a token gift, nor did any of my family think it was goofy. A couple of them have requested the class for themselves!

That said, we took the class at a stained glass shop. 5 minutes of instruction, & we were off! My BF focused on creating large, reflective, & glittery pieces. I focused on creating natural, ethereal pieces....using nature as my theme. Both sets looked great. I ended up with 10 smaller pieces (ranging <2". My BF made 7 large pieces. All for the same price.

I'm only mentioning all of this since you're thinking about a painting class. It truly was an extraordinary gift....& would work well with a small group. In fact, my BF had attended a previous class with a large group of moms.....& they made it into a party, with drinks/snacks at the class & then they all headed to a restaurant afterwards. :)

Is this for a bachelorette party, or a bridal shower??

For my bachelorette party, we had a Passion Party. Everyone was asked to bring money instead of a gift, and put it towards my order from the party! It was super fun, we had drinks and food, and one hilarious night of girls talking about men, sex, etc :-)

Someone in their 30's with four children is a far cry from being a "Bachelorette", unless she and her next husband have every household item they need, I would suggest having a girls spa day with some child care and if that is too expensive, you could have a party at someones home (grown up sleep over) where there's lots of food, movies, doing manicures/pedicures, games etc. and a nice brunch in the morning. Again, giving her child care would be a good gift....maybe the fiance could take care of that.....if he can't...there's a problem to be addressed.

Blessings....

We did a cheese class at this place called Scardello's in Dallas for my SIL's bach party. http://scardellocheese.com/ It was so great! It was a private class and they paired wines with each cheese! I think it was like $25-30 per person, so that can simply be everyone's gift - the experience of doing that together! The host of the party treated everyone to some champagne before we started. :)

For the gift:
I would give her something instead of lingerie.
How about a sliver bracelet w/a sliver charm (shoe horse or 4 leaf clover
for luck, love ((word spelled out)) charm, high heel charm etc.)
Pretty wallet (the new zip kind)
basket of goodies: wine, 2 pretty crystal goblets, fortune cookies, candles
framed poem for the 2 of them starting their journey out together, box of
chocolates
Something neat for her bedroom (pretty glass candle holder w/wht candle
Taste of Brews (from around the world @ Cost Plus) so she can have a
fun beer tasting @ home w/her hubby
Pretty throw for their bed (neutral color..not feminine)
Cute card game for her & hubby-to-be to play

Activity for you guys to do:
Wine tasting
A fancy lunch

I've been to bridal showers (not bach. parties) where they ask all the guests to write their favourite recipe on an index card to give to the bride so she can start her recipe collection.

There's a company here in Australia that specialises in gift experiences. They have one where a chef comes and makes a gourmet dinner for 8 guests. You could search around for something like that - maybe someone from a culinary school?

I recently posted that I got my husband a barista lesson for a day. They will teach him how to make 6 or so different coffees and the foam art, etc and then he gets to sample them. That could be really fun with a group of you!

Good luck and enjoy the day!

Hi A.-

Several years ago, I went to a bachelorette party in Northern Virginia. We were told to wear comfortable clothes.

The hostess had hired a woman who taught us how to 'pole' dance! It was a hoot! At the time it was billed as excercize as well as a 'treat' for hubby...but it really was FUN! We all had to give each other stripper names...she had scarves and feathers as well as a portable 'pole'.

It was more difficult than I dreamed...was more 'work' than I dreamed...and was truly an entertaining night!

I am sure if you google, something will come up in your area.

Best Luck!

The best one I ever went too, we went to a winery. Sounds really boring right? But it wasn't! We were allowed to bring snacks, so everyone brought a little something, and we sampled wine, talked and laughed. It was so relaxed and beautiful, and a lot of the other patrons joined in. Just so much fun!

I recently went to a painting party with a group of friends. It was a very cool experience but it would not work well for this situation. In order to complete the paintings, we were busy the whole time (nearly 3 hours) and everyone was concentrating so much that it wasn't very conducive to chatting, let alone really being a "party." We had been out to dinner first, so we still enjoyed our time together, but the painting part didn't include that much interaction as the task of painting took too much instruction and attention to detail. I agree that spa time would be a better option.

I think there are LOTS of ideas!!!

You could ask everyone to bring their favorite recipes on a note card. For dinners, deserts, even adult beverages! And then have everyone bring a sample to share!
You could have a True Romance party. Which has lotions, scents, some lingerie, games etc.
You could make it a Decedant Desert and Drink party. Have everyone wear P.J's!
Depending on the environment you want, you could rent a room at a hotel with a bar. So you could have the party, go down for drinks and fun and then no one has to drive!
Think about things your sister in law is in too, and go from there! Have fun!!
