Babywearing - San Antonio,TX

Any other moms who babywear?

I should have said that I have two Didymos wraps and love them. I wear my month old and my year old!!

A PP said something about wearing the baby facing out and I would like to say that it is unsafe and very bad for the babies joints. It can cause problems later in life.

I haven't seen a babywearing group and was interested in finding one. I can wrap at an advanced level and prefer my wraps to other carriers.

M.,

Babywearing is a major component of attachment parenting, and when I did a Google search, I found a group there in San Antonio: http://www.api-sa-nb.org/

I used a sling when both my girls were itty bitty, and when my oldest was 8 months, I discovered The ERGO. I my opinion, it ranks right up there with disposable diapers (no offense to the cloth fans out there). I don't leave the house without it, and in a pinch, I can still carry my 5 1/2-year-old in it. The old-school version I have allows for a back-carry (like a piggy-back ride), or baby can face you on the front. The new version also allows for a hip-carry.

The website I ordered mine from is www.myfavoritebabycarrier.com. They offer a 90-day money back guarantee, though I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to send it back. It ROCKS!!!!

Best wishes!
M.

I wore my daughter until she was 2. I never had any problems other than she got heavy! I think baby wearing is great! Dr. Sears recommends baby wearing. He actually devotes an entire chapter to it in The Baby Book.

I strongly suggest the Ergo carrier. I have tried 5 different carriers with my 2 children, and it is BY FAR the best. It gives me so much more back support than the others, has an easily attachable cover for discreet nursing and a zipper pocket in front for my wallet. Awesome. I got mine at Austin Baby.

I wore my son in a ring sling until he was around 15 or 16lbs. Then switched to a Mei Tei until he got older. He is now almost 2yrs and I'm pregnant again and plan on doing the same thing with the new baby. The sling was particularly helpful at restaurants. I would wear him in it and lightly sway forward and backward while I was eating, and he would always calm down completely or fall asleep.

Yes, ma'am! Using my mei tai is the only way i can grocery shop or do just about anything, since I have a 9 month old, a 2 year old, and a 4 year old! I always "wore" my daughter, too, in a ring sling, but a mei tai is better for my big boy. I LOVE it! Both of them have always fallen asleep while on me, so I know they'll get a nap while I shop. It's also perfect for the park and every where else we go. I wore my daughter until I was 5 months pregnant and just couldn't wear her in front anymore! When the baby was new, I used a Moby, which was alright - def. good for someone new to wrapping. But the mei tai is my very favorite and I wear both the 2 year old and 9 month old (though mostly the baby).

I only "wore" my first in a Snuggli, which I hated, so I carried him everywhere. I didn't know about anything else at the time. I'm so glad I researched it all while pregnant with my second. I still have that Snuggli, only used a couple of times. I've tried to sell it, as it's practically brand new, but no one wants it!

ETA: You added more to your request....

As far as babywearing groups, I'm not a member of one. I am a member of a mom's group that is pro- attachment parenting, and most of us babywear (many of us cloth diaper, extended breastfeed, co sleep, practice gentle discipline,....you get the picture!).

I really love the baby ergo carrier. Kind of pricey, but worth it. So much more comfortable than any other carriers I tried. I actually wanted a sling, but they really hurt my back and each time I tried to get fitted my baby girl was miserable. Anywho...they can be found at Whole Earth.

We baby wear as well. I tried a number of different slings and carriers, we ended up really liking the Lillebaby-- I needed something I could put on and take off easily without any help and this one is totally easy and you can wear it in four different ways (front inward, front forward, back, and hip).

I know there is some discussion about whether or not babies should be worn outward facing. I personally don't see a problem with it for short periods or in familiar surroundings and my daughter loves it.

Shopping is also so much easier now!

I wore my daughter in a sling and loved it. My boy was bigger, so I got a wrap that's very similar to a Mei Tai and really loved that. Once you get the hang of tying it, it's very easy. And, if you're going to be flying at all, it's fantastic because it has no metal in it, so you can wear it through airport security.
I wore both my kids a lot! Around the house, shopping, going on walks. I loved it!
