Baby's First Haircut?
Just curious - when did you get your baby's haircut for the first time?
So What Happened?™
Ladies - I really enjoyed reading your responses!
I have no clue what we're going to do, but if this is my biggest baby worry right now then I think I'm doing okay. Ha! Seriously though, my little boy (who is almost 14 months old) looks like an unkempt grandpa with a thin scraggly mullet. Of course, I still think he's adorable.
Two things keep my from cutting his hair - #1. The ends are starting to curl up, so I'm thinking that might actually look cute (or it could be disastrous, who knows!) and #2. No way on earth is he going to sit still for a hair cut!
We shall see - but I have sworn to myself that he will never look like Ryder Hudson!

2 weeks old with my first (a boy with very long hair at birth!), 3 months with my second (boy), and my 3rd is girl and no haircut yet. I'll probably just let it grow for a long time!

My family has a tradition that on or near the child's 1st birthday, Grandpa, and/or Daddy, would take him with them to the Barber and get their hair cut. One of my children got really angry, he did not want his hair cut! So, my Dad just let him sit on his lap while he got his own hair cut and, then, my son wanted his done!

Kaytlyn is now two and has never been to the salon for an "Official" haircut...I've cut her hair on several occasions though. Her 1st haircut was around 15 months old.

My daughter was almost 3, my first son was 11 months, and my second son was 15 months. For the boys, I got their haircut after people asked me if they were boys or girls. I knew it was time then :).

My daughters were both almost three. My son had his first haircut at 10 1/2 months, because it was getting in his face. It's been about 6 weeks, and he needs it cut again!

Just over one--he didn't have much hair, but it got long. We went to Kidsnips on Clybourn.

Hi, we never cut our babies hair until after they were a year old. Most likely some old wives tale but whomever came up with it it worked for everyone that I know. My siblings all 9 of them also did not cut the hair of a child until after their first birthday.

My son's hair grows fast and he had beautiful hair by the time he was 10 months old. We had it cut just past his 1st birthday but family kept telling me to cut is a lot sooner. Do what you feel is right. Once we cut it, I realized he wasn't a baby anymore. Mixed feelings about that!
By the way, we go to Kid Snips in Vernon Hills at the mall. Love them. Here is their website:

Also, if it's their first haircut, they keep the first lock of hair they cut and put it in a baggie on a certificate with their picture!

I had my son's hair cut when he was only a few months old. What people don't understand is that by getting it cut it starts to grow better. It will start coming in thicker and will grow out faster. My mom is a hairdresser and she said it was a good idea to get it cut often at a young age so that he would start to grow regular hair, not that thin baby fine hair.

My son got his first cut at around 2 1/2, we waited because he had big beautiful curls, unfortunately they never came back after that.
With my daughter she's only 9 mos right now and barely has more than a pinch of hair, so we'll likely weight until she's 4 or 5, if not longer.
