Boudreaux's Butt Paste is great. It's made in Louisiana. I got it at a Wal-Mart in New Orleans, but I don't know if they sell it here. Google it if you can't find it in the store. It's not expensive so shipping won't break you. Cloth diapers are better for a baby than plastic to keep them from getting rashes. The new brands of cloth diapers are not too much work as they used to be.

Try Dr. Smiths Diaper Rash Cream. It works pretty quick. You can find it at Wal-Mart where they have baby stuff by the pharmacy or at Walgreens or CVS. Hope this helps.

Y.,
If her skin is not broken, I had good luck with Butt Paste and A&D ointnment. I used to rotate the two of them when a rash was really bad. If it is a really mild rash and you are willing to watch her carefully, lay her on her tummy without any diaper on. Just cover her up with a blankie. However, if the skin is broken, take her to the doctor. My son had a really bad rash once and nothing was working. When we went to the pediatrician, it was a staph infection. I had no idea this was possible! The doctor gave us a prescription ointment and he was fine.
Good luck,
C.

I always used Dr. Smith's cream, I think Wallgreens carries it now. It's a little expensive, but worth EVERY penny. My boys never had a diaper rash for more than 1 day, it's like a diaper rash eraser! It's a great gift for a new mom and I always had at least 1 on hand. Good luck.

I always had the best luck with Boudreaux butt paste, it works really quick. Some of the other diaper rash medicines would help some but boudreaux will clear it up fast. Also let your baby air out some in the day and go diaper less a while each day. When she clears up you can put a tiny bit of cornstarch based powder in her diaper, it will keep the wetness away from her skin.

If the rash is sooooooooooooper red, then she could have strep. I accidentally gave my 2nd daughter a strep infection and she went bright red and was in PAIN. It got worse and after a few days I took her to the ped. He looked at her for one second and told me she had strep, put her on antib. and then she was back to normal. I gave it to her by blowing in her diaper region when I unknowingly had strep throat(you know I'd gotten into that habit erroneously thinking that it was just a fast way of airing-out that area before putting the diaper on, and you know how wet the diaper wipes can make them....)dumb.
Well, she probably doesn't have that.
For normal diaper rashes, I clean them well with warm wet paper towel (no perfumes) but if I can't then at least I try to use a hypoallergenic baby wipe, and then fan them so that it helps dry it down there. Then I put on a TON of baby powder (not talcum powder, but if that's all you have it will work but talc isn't the best--cornstarch baby powder is, I think). Then I put the diaper on. I second that the air/drying it will work the best (but whenever I tried no diaper they always had accidents all over). I've tried 8 different brands of diaper ointment and I'm fully convinced that the best thing (for my kids, at least) is to stay as dry as possible. The rashes would clear up within hours usually. (I'd use a lot of powder if it was looking bad.) Whenever our youngest, who's still in diapers, is starting to look just a little red, I clean her up and apply some powder, and by the time I change her next diaper it's usually fine again. Best wishes. And sorry so wordy.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste is the best stuff out there. It clears my son's diaper rash in a day or so. Works very well.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste is a GREAT invention! I've found it at Wal-Mart and Target and even Kroger before. I've also alternated at each changing between that and a cream that's zinc oxide based (like desitin, etc) and that seems to help knock out the bad rashes quicker.
I've also done warm sitz baths and allowing the rash to dry out (no diaper for a few hours at a time) when the rashes have been particularly bad. The biggest thing is making sure that their bottoms are dry before re-diapering. To that end, I've even been known to use a hair dryer (on the coolest setting!) to help with that process.
Good luck!

Hello Y.. I just went through this with our 8 month old. I guess we are both lucky Mom's for our daughters to be this old and just now having a problem. I know that Talcum powder is not trendy anymore and it is not advised for little ones, but for babies our ages it's not a problem. What worked for us is Budreaux's Butt paste (available anywhere) and pure cornstarch baby powder. I used both for every diaper change and the rash was gone in just 3 days, and looked so much better every day.
Now that I've been through it and know how scary it looks, I still used Diaper rash cream and Cornstarch at every changing.
Good luck with the bottom!
