OK. My kids are older, but I have a couple I remember off the top of my head.

They used to say "whiling" instead of "while."

My favorite though was a completely new word my youngest made up (very insistently) for "tiara" which is "glidenagleeben." She was 2 and couldn't find her "gliddenagleeben" and wanted my help. I had NO idea what she was talking about, but she kept saying the word very clearly and getting upset that I didn't understand. Finally she found it and showed it to me, "SEE, glidenagleeben!" I told her it was a tiara, but she insisted it wasn't. Too cute!

Years ago, my daughter's favorite movie was "Princess Diarrhea" (Princess Diaries). Had to share that one!

Our daughter use to say "sha cli mellow" for Sacramento. Or she will STILL sometimes tell me she has a "hadduck"....or headache....she's almost 13 now....LOL ....we always got a kick out of that one!

I think my favorite these days from my 4 yr old is "mazagine"...for magazine. Great question!

My little girl(4 y/o) is growing so fast because her heart keeps "beeping". It just cracks me up every time she says it.

My son loves his "winkie" or blankie and likes to watch a "moosie" or movie with his sissy.

I have a few. My son says "meeyiy" (banana), "patchuduh" (spatula), "bohyball" (volleyball or basketball), and a completely made-up word "obuhgooduhgeeter." We have NO clue where it came from or what it means, but once we figured out how to say it, it never fails to make him giggle.

My sister used to say "glubs" (gloves) and "meelk" (milk). My cousin's phrase for spaghetti sauce was "pasketti skaus." Two of my favorites, though, were ones that my mom said I said when I was little. "Hippomopatumus" and "nirocerous." Nothing like making 2 hard words even harder!!!!

My baby girl calls my parents dog Sophie, Wewe and for a long time she called Big Bird, Gi Boo. She says Big Bird much clearer now, but Sophie is still WeWe. And of course it's totally cute the way she says i love you. She grabs my leg and says yuv ou mama.

My four year old calls bandaids - dambaids. Absolutely love it still.

My borther used to make announcements before speaking and would address the crowd "ladies and jumpijumps"

We had just moved to our new location. My little girls (twins) made friends with a little girl down the street. The father asked his daughter where her new friends were from and she told him we were from, "La berry ahh." She was trying to say, "the bay area."

and because she is mentioned above and very much in our hearts one last special memory of baby talk goes to our dear sweet friend who just recently passed at the tender age of seven. Belli we love you forever!

My daughter, 3yo, says "lasteryear" for anything that happened in the past and "next year" for anything that will happen in the future including tomorrow!

She's actually very articulate and doesn't do too many of these so I really enjoy the little babytalk she still uses!

I have a couple that I thought were cute. My husband used to work at a water district "plant", so my son was saying one day, Mommmy are we going to go to the tree to see daddy? I was like um tree, trying to figure out what he was talking about, then it dawned on me he was talking about the "plant" that my husband worked at. And then we had some friends that lived in an apartment but my son called it a compartment, which if you think about it, is pretty close.

My daughter who is now 7-yrs. old used to say "pasghetti" for spaghetti and "yaboo" for I love you. I don't hear them anymore because she can say them properly now but I sure miss hearing them...

My daughter used to refer to my father (her grampa) as "tampa"!!! I believe she was around 2 at the time. She also has a problem pronouncing her f's, so Fruit is suit, four and five are sour and sive. silly. thanks for the laugh today!

One of my favorites... my youngest brother called a helicopter an "op chopper".

Here are some of the cute things that my children used to say: Myca-mave (Microwave) Pend -the-night (spend the night) and Gagga-bees, Gagga-bees, Bubba-boe wings (Applebees - Applebees, Buffalo Wings) My son's name (now 22 and in the U.S. Air Force) is Adam and his little sister Emily (now 15) used to call him Adda-dee... there is also gammella bars (granola bars) and mackin (napkin) so many cute things and guess what??? Even though the kids are grown... we still use the timeless terms... so much joy!!! Praise the Lord for babies!!! The greatest blessing of my life so far has been being a mother... Enjoy!!

My son used to call bananas "miss"???. He had a few made up words as well..... "Ma tee" (while patting his hands together as though he was wiping them off), "Paw" while holding his hands like he was reciting a mantra of some sort :, he still says "scuzed" when he wants to be excused from the table, but our all time favorite started quite early. When he was about 12-13 months we were trying to teach him to say Thank you. He would give you the most sincere look and say "Doo Dah" :). We still say "doo Dah" around here! Thanks for the cute post! What a way to start the day!

Oh my gosh, This is great. I really needed this today. Been up wtih 2 sick kids for the past 3 nights. Husband works in LA every week and Im out of my mind. This post made my day. Here are the funny things my 3yo(bday today) says.

One thing my 21 month old daughter says that took my a while to figure out was pillow. She pronounces it podo. So at night when she is tired she says Mama I want my milky, I want my blanky, and finally I want my Podo.

My 3 year old son thinks that if there is such a word as "today" and "tomorrow" than naturaly there must be a "to-later" and a to-yesterday"! Another favorite is "bite-a-mens"
my nine year daughter still calls oatmeal "oit-meal" and my two favorites "renember" & "comp-cuter"! They are too cute to correct. I'll miss when she stops saying it!

Hi there. This is so fun to read.
My now 9 yr old use to call handicapped parking spaces "capti chairs" and the rail road crossing arms were called "nee nees." This took me a long time to figure out. A girlfriend (also a mom) figured it out. It is the sound the arms make when they come down. He also said "gills" for girls.
My 4 yr old used to say "last day" for yesterday and my tweezers are "squeezers."
My 11 yr old daughter called elephants "ChaCha" for the longest time. The San Diego Wild Animal Park has a dancing elephant there named ChaCha. My daughter saw the show when she was about 18-20mos. She said ChaCha until she was about 4.

My son used to say Bud Lightbeer instead of Buzz Lightyear, He used to say Mo-Dy! everytime he wanted more of something to eat..it sounded like a Japanese exclamation of some sort! He used to say grils for girls and still says tavorite instead of favorite. My dughter is just beginning to really talk so we shall see...she calls her brother Bubba and cats Kikis and when she is really tired instead of calling me mommy and dad daddy she rolls our names into one and just calls us both Mumdee! Enjoy!

My daughter has these little pink hippos she's always called beebos, and helicopter has morphed from dop-a-dop to harley daughter, and now helicopper. And she likes to say my realy first name, and she pronounces it Stemanie, even though she can pronounce it correctly. I know there are more but these are the ones I can think of right off.

My now 5 yo's first word was dog, except he said, "og-dah." (perhaps he'll enjoy pig-Latin?) We weren't positive at first that he was saying "dog," but he said og-dah every time the dog came into the room, and we realized that he was saying "dog" -- kinda.

Other words: makamoki (macaroni), strawbabies (strawberries -- the woman at the farmers' market started calling them strawbabies, too, when my son was there), Powalangers (Power Rangers, I think -- he kept insisting that Powalangers were something different, but he didn't know what Power Rangers are), peach peachpeepatino (peach teappachino), and my mom's all-time favorite: Boo Bah (my mom's name is Barbara), which then morphed into Grammy Boo Bah, and then, to my mom's great distress, Grammy (she has no problem being called Grammy; she just misses the Boo Bah part!).

Just remembered some R to X rated ones: for about six months he said clock without the "L," and my friend's son used to call dump trucks dumb f&%ks. She lived in fear of seeing dump trucks for quite some time!

Ok -- one more: until my son was 4, he called the Thai place where we got his favorite chicken dish "The Big Chicken Store."

Ok, in our family we still call lollypops - pollywops and hamburgers - hangaburs in tribute to my sister's slang 30 years ago...

my youngest has a flare for language as well... his first word besides the basics was "B-cull" for bicycle which really meant MOTORCYCLE to him, he also calls the computer, "percuter" f, but our favorite was when he explained to a friend that we watched an old TV show the night before: "Big Damn Bike".

My seven year old had to explain........" he means: Dick Van Dyke!"

a lot of these are so familiar in our home as our kids are growing up. I'd like to add turch (church). I didn't catch on right away until my 1st grader was writing it. She was asking for help and when I told her how to spell church, she gave me this crazy look. So I looked to see how she was writing it and there it was the T. So both my girls are trying to get out of that habit now and they correct themselves. Also my 6 yr old during her prayers says... for dine is the Kingdom.... or Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, was my kingdom come, my will... that I had to correct really quick. have fun!

My daughter hasn't gotten to spend a lot of time around my mother, because she lives out of state (but she sees my husbands mother almost every day).
When I was ready to deliver my second child this past May, my mom came and stayed with us for about three weeks. My mom was a little more strict with her (saying "NO" a lot) then her other grandmother is...
and we found it quite humorous when "grandma" occassionally sounded like "dam-ma".

My daughter called her ankle her "bunkle" until I finally had to let that one go when she started school (for me it was sort of like breaking the news about santa)(she is now 36 with 3 very intellectually advanced children - so no harm done there!) One son always said "benumber" for "remember" and wore a "bay foop" for a bathing suit and the youngest (now 21 and raised on Ninja Turtles) called one Wewaydo when he was 2 - I think it was Leonardo. Now I've heard that when I was little we had "curnits" over the window in out "kinetch" where we cooked our meals.

My girls ask if they can have "bazzert" after dinner (dessert). And they like to get happy meals at "Old MacDonalds"

Oh, and the cat box is filled with "kitty glitter".
