Baby Sling - Overland Park,KS
I am trying to find out a good brand of baby sling to purchase for my second baby due in March. I have a 20 month old and I realize it might be nice to have my hands free while still carrying around baby. Which slings have you found are durable and comfortable?

The Moby carrier is the best for 0-6mo, then the Ergo carrier or Mei Tai wrap are the best (6-32mo). I also have a one shoulder pouch sling which is good for quick trips, but not that comfortable for all day wear.

I second the comments about the Infantino and the Baby Bjorn. Actually, neither is very good for a baby - the Infantino has caused a few deaths, and the Bjorn puts incorrect pressure on the baby's genitals and can cause hip displacement. I LOVE my ring sling. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 2 month old and it does help a lot to have my hands free. Check out www.babysosmart.com for a local woman who makes them and has TONS of good information. Tiffany was a pediatric nurse and can give you great advice. Congrats on your newest addition!!

I used a sling called "Peanut Shell". I bought it at Nordstroms a few years ago and have loved it. I couldn't have done without it the first 6 months my son was born. A lifesaver when you have two kids for sure!

It depends on where you want to wear your baby in my opinion. I have had and tried various ones.
I have two hotslings and found this to be uncomfortable for me and seeminlgy uncomfortable for my son when he was small. But some people claim to love these (however they do kind of limit use of one arm).
I also have a Moby and while this was very comfortable and gave me use of both arms while wearing my son, it took awhile to get it on and with a younger child (my daughter was 2 when my son was born) and my husband works night so it's not something easily slip on when he wants to be held and is crying!
I have used a Bjorn and have another one (from Target so cheaper) and actually liked this one the best so far because of it's ease to get on and off and it's comfortable and gives me the use of both arms. My son loves being faced outwards and can in this carrier (also can in the Moby).
I am actually selling my Moby...it's Indigo Blue, five months old and worn maybe 5x. Bought for $40 plus shipping at mobywrap.com and selling for $22 with $8 shipping so you are saving 10+. Let me know if you are interested and want to see pics!
Good luck in your hunt!

My husband and I both loved our Baby Bjorn. I read that another poster said it was horribly uncomfortable, but I never experienced that. We both loved it! We did have to adjust it for each of our bodies, but once we got that down, it was great.

My first and all time favorite is my maya wrap ring sling. I use it from newborn through 35 or so pounds. It's pretty comfortable and easy to put on and take off. For longer periods I love my moby wrap. (I have a few others like a pouch and such, I don't have a meitai, but would love to). I have to agree with the others about the baby bjorn. Someone gave me one with my second child, but I never used it, as it was rather uncomfortable and much more confusing to put on. For an all around good sling that is very versitle, I would get a ring sling and make sure you can pull the side over your shoulder, like the maya wrap.

I absolutely love my Moby Wrap. You can wear it many different ways and it is extremely comfortable. I bought a bjorn for my first daughter and it was too uncomfortable to wear once she got heavier. My second daughter is now almost one and weighs about 24 lbs and I can still have her in my moby wrap. I have recently put her in the moby wrap when going to a museum and the wrap disperses the weight so well - I didn't even notice that I was carrying her. My daughters were 18 months apart and I don't think I would have been able to survive the first couple months without my moby wrap :)
