Baby Shower Ideas... - Fort Worth,TX
hi guys, my favorite peeps. :)
i'm a procrastinor to say the least. i gotta come up w/2 games at my (very boring) friends baby shower next wknd. i know i sound mean, but there's a group of us who've always done showers for each other, so now it's her turn. ANYWAY, i want to buy as little as possible due to money issues (not cause i'm mean) but they've gotta be FUN...b/c she's NOT! i'm fun! i laugh & joke at anything. she's the type that'll sit there & look at you stupid when you're telling a joke; can't imagine how she'll act saturday - geez.
i gotta bring drinks too. can i just bring bottled water or something - lol! for real! i don't have a punch bowl or anything pretty like that.
what should i do? i'm so not feeling this at all.
i know some of you mamas LOVE this stuff so help me out - lol! :) (just remmeber - low money & laughable)
sorry for the repeat question!
thanks y'all! :)

My beverage idea: Virgin Belinis. You can use canned peaches and put a couple of slices in the bottom of a champagne glass, a tablespoon of the peach juice from the can, use ginger ale instead of champagne. You can make a pitcher of the liquid concoction and use frozen sliced peaches instead of ice cubes. Classy.
To be honest, I didn't play any games at my baby showers. The present opening and eating took all the time. I was a little disappointed to not do blindfolded diapering or baby name Scattegories..... What do you like to do when none of you are pregnant? I would try to put a baby spin on that.

Wow...what a lucky mom to have YOU giving her a baby shower.
Sorry, but I sure hope that you do a better job of pretending around her that you actually care enough about her to give her a shower....not just because it's her "turn." Just because she doesn't like to be in the spotlight doesn't mean that she can't have fun. She's just not you.
Because she's so 'boring,' I would take this to mean that she doesn't want to have all of the focus on her. SO, here are two games I can think of:
One game is the good ole roll of toilet paper game where each person takes off a strand of paper that they think will go perfectly around the expectant mother. Some people aim for the length around the waist and baby bump. Other hosts will not specify where the paper needs to go around and then they trick people by announcing later that it should go around the mom's head or wrist or something.
Another game is kind of yucky, but funny nonetheless. You can take some clean diapers and melt different kinds of candy bars in each diaper. Make sure to put a number on the outside of each diaper so that you can tell them apart later. The guests have to smell each diaper to determine what melted candy bar is in which diaper.
You can find fun word association games by googling 'baby shower games' and print them out.
Also, around here, whoever 'wins' each game gets a small gift that is actually for the mother-to-be (like a pack of pacifiers or rattler or something). OR you could give small candles (I know, I know, short on money).
Sorry I cannot help you with the beverage...punch is customary around here.
And sorry for my sarcasm earlier...I just really hope that you can remember that this is HER day for once. Try to keep your feelings about how boring she is to yourself.

Drinks are easy - frozen fruit in water looks pretty AND it's healthy.
As for an inexpensive gift, why not give her some two hour "get rid of your kid free" card?
Or what about, a personal coupon offering her 2 hours of housework.
Be creative.
Or maybe your gift is to take digital pics of the shower and post them for her on her FB page.
Maybe you will shoot video of everyone sending the baby a message.
Or totally my favourite - bring as many blank birthday cards are there are guests. And you organize them each to pick a birthday that they will write a card for. For example, when my daughter was born my grandmother wrote her a card for her 70th birthday, it's a birthday that my grams won't be around for.
It doesn't have to cost much or anything at all, just be creative.

Yikey-poo. Sorry, but if I thought my friend felt that way about me, I'd be let down. Step up and support her...she deserves to be celebrated! This is nothing a quick google search can't fix.

I get your drift on boring friends. To me, anyone who doesn't have a good sense of humor is a tad self centered b/c to laugh at someone else's humor you have to make the effort to sort of empathize with that other person for a moment and quite frankly, most people can't. And she is part of your social circle, so you can't really avoid her. But some of my best friends are boring and while I feel its my life's pursuit to try and get them to snap out of it, I love them to death.
ideas:
Write popular kiddie songs or lullabies (Farmer in the Dell, Old McDonald, I'm a little teapot, etc) on pieces of paper, throw em in a hat/baby bonnet and have each guest pull one and hum it. Whoever guesses the most tunes, wins!
Charades is always fun. Some categories can be famous moms, popular momisms, songs w/the word "baby" in it or in the title, etc
Sliced lemons in a pitcher of water always looks inviting and refreshing!
And you CAN served bottled water - make up labels saying something like "Baby shower for my boring BFF" and the shower date. Maybe you can include the name of the baby if she's picked one out. And then put the labels over the water company label.

Don't say baby is always fun.Plastic clothes pins can probably be bought at the dollar store. And you pass one out to each guest as they arrive,if they say baby whoever catches them collects their clothes pin.Whoever has the most at the end of the shower wins.
How big is Mommy to be.Take a toilet paper roll and pass it around, have each person tear off a piece (how big around they think mom to be is.) Then have each person stand up and put it around mommy to be's belly, the closest wins!
Guess what baby food this is!
Baby relay race, get 2 baby dolls, clothes, and diapers.Split group into two teams and the 1st person would dress and diaper the baby,2nd person would undiaper and undress the baby,3rd would dress and diaper, and so on until one team finishes.
Smell the diaper and guess what's in it!Melt different types of candy bars in diapers, pass them around and have everyone guess what they are.(And write it down.) The person who guesses the most wins.
I have used all of these and all of them are cheap and fun!

I did not read the other answers so I am sorry if I am repeating. For my sil's shower I got something from party city that looked like a large measuring tape that was plastic that you could cut. You can also do it with yarn. where everyone guesses how big around the mother to be is. I was lots of fun. We did that at one of my showers too. Another one is to put stuff under and blanket that is baby stuff. and uncover it for maybe 10 to 15 seconds and then make everyone write down what is under it. The cloths pin game is always fun too where everyone has a cloths pin and then if they say baby or cross thier leggs or just anything and are cought by someone else they get the other persons cloths pin.
Good luck and God bless!

The way I see it--it's YOUR turn to do the giving part.
Wow. If my BFF had that attitude, I'd have rather not had a shower.
Google baby shower games, pick two and buy a punch bowl and make some punch for God's sake.
Regardless--it's HER turn--suck it up and put forth a little effort!
