Hello,

Your help is needed desperately!! I'm looking for a unique idea for a baby shower I'm throwing for a dear friend of mine in January. Her baby girl is due the same day my daughter was born!! She has done more for me and my family than words could ever say and I want to throw her an amazing shower! She loves books, she has a great relationship with the Lord, she loves jewelry, clothes, handbags, monogrammed things, stationary, etc. She's not big on chocolate, but she likes some candies like Reese's Pieces. However, I would love to give our guests something more practical. Something that will make them say, "Wow, I neveer would have thought of that...what a great idea!!" We're having approximately 25 ppl. With the holidays right around the corner our budgets are pretty tight this time of year. I would like to stay under $3 a piece if possible. Her color theme is pink, brown, and lime green. If you can think of anything at all please let me know. Time is running out!!!!

Some friends and I once made Vanilla Brown Sugar Body Scrub. We bought Mason jars, printed round labels for the tops, and tied a ribbon around it. The labels and ribbon matched the colors of the shower, and it was a great gift for winter-time skin. There are lots of recipes on the web, but we used a very simple one of just brown sugar, vanilla, and oil.

I threw a showed for a dear friend last year and I had two big hits at the party:
1. For favors I made cookie fowers. You can buy the package dough to make it really easy. I cut them into flowers, added lollipop Sticks, and decorated them with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles. I put two in a celephane bag and stuck them in a flower pot full of Hershey kisses on the center of each table. You get really cute and affordable favors that double as centerpieces.

2. For a fun activity (instead of silly games) that triples as entertainment, decoration, and a gift for the mommy I got 3 packs of white onesies in assorted sizes, prewashed, and hung them on a clothes line. Then I put some fabric paints, brushes, stamps/stencils, and other odds and ends on a tabel and each guest painted a personalized onesie. Some were cute, some funny, some really ugly-but they all came from the heart. My friend loved them and the guests had a great time-even the people with no artistic ability. A little tip-take the time to cut out poster paper forms for inside each onesie. It makes it easier to hang/paint/dry/display the onesies and keeps the paint from bleeding through to the back.

Have a fun party hope you like the ideas!

Well I hope this helps.. http://www.creative-baby-shower-ideas.com/baby-bootie-cup... Just copy and paste the address. It's instructions on how to make booties out of styrafoam cups. You can decorate them with the colors you are using and fill with whatever candy the mommy likes.. And as far as I know you can get most of the items at the dollar store and no one will know any different!! Something else you can do is get a notebook of some kind and have everyone write down their favorite "busy day" recipe and then give it to mommy at the end of the shower or take it home and type it up for her. It's something she hopefully would like when she is trying to cook dinner on 2 hours of sleep.. :)

You could print off one of these little poems from baby on cute paper:

I'm really glad that you could come
And help surprise my mother
sit down, relax, enjoy yourselves
and chat with one another
Sorry I can't be with you
to join in Mommy's shower
But I'm very busy you see
I'm growing more each hour
Though I'm not there to thank you
for the lovely gifts you've brought
my family is grateful
we appreciate the thought
I'll be arriving shortly
and I'm as happy as can be
so, after I've been home awhile
please come and visit me

***********************************************************

I'm almost here, I'm on my way
I'm the reason you celebrate today
You've planned and prepared
For me to arrive
Love is the reason I'm alive
So I thank you all from
The bottom of my heart
for helping my mom and dad
Give me a great start.

***********************************************************

Just punch a hole and tie the little poem with pink ribbon to some small token...like a little mesh bag of those pastel party mints. It's very cheap and very meaningful at the same time. =0) Good luck and have fun!

I have used the following idea at a few baby showers and everyone loved it!

Get a small candle in any color, tie a ribbon around it and attach one of the following poems:

Candle Favor Poems

Here is a candle that glows so bright
its given to you for you to light
when our little one has made its way
to celebrate the joyous day

Here is a candle that glows so bright
its given to you for you to light
upon the arrival of our little boy
to celebrate our day of joy

Here is a candle that glows so bright
its given to you for you to light
upon the arrival of our little girl
to spread our happiness to the world

Here's a candle for you to light,
Once the stork has made its flight.
With the flicker of the flame,
Say a prayer in (the baby's)name.(or put the baby's name here if they have already choosen it).
author unknown

A little candle for you to light,
Once the stork has made its flight.
The flame will glow to celebrate,
Baby _________'s arrival date.

Hope this helps=)

This isn't a party favor idea, but rather an activity idea for the shower. Some friends of mine and I did this years ago for a baby shower and everyone loved it. Get a binder and some sturdy paper for pages. Then put a category heading on each page - category headings like "groceries", "in the news", "sports", "my home", "popular t.v. shows", "music," "movies", "fashions", "our church," "our friends" etc. This is kind of a "time capsule" for the baby. Then give each guest a page to write on - to fill out the category. If you have some artistic friends, they can draw on there as well, or you can give them magazines to cut pictures out of and glue on, etc. It's also nice if you prepare ahead of time and have a picture of your friend's house, a picture of yourself, etc., to put in the book. Everyone can pass around the pages until they are all filled up. Then put all the pages in the binder (you can decorate the binder ahead of time - on the front you can put something like, "When you were born...") and give it to the mother-to-be as a party gift. Every time I've done this, the guests enjoyed it a lot more than typical "shower" games and the guest of honor really loves having it. I think it makes the shower special. God bless!

A friends shower I went to gave out a flower bulb for favors... Like a tulip or something. Every time you see it, you think of the baby...it grows as the baby grows. I am sure you can think up some type of saying to attach to the wrapping it's in.

I agree with the respondent who said favors are not necessary. I nice touch might be to take a picture of each person with the new mom and send a copy of the picture with the thank you card. If you want favors, you could always give inexpensive frames so they will be able to frame the picture when it arrives. You can often get wallet-sized frames that are meant as wedding favors/place card holders.

Don't know if you've already planned the actual decorations, but I wanted to mention something I did for my brother and his wife's baby shower recently. I got two very large, oval acrylic bowls (found them at Wal-mart) and used them to flank a beautiful centerpiece of fresh flowers on the food table. I loaded the bottom of the bowls with different colored glass gems (found in the craft section), filled them with water, then floated rubber duckies on top. You should be able to find glass gems in pink, brown and green. And you could stick with pink and green rubber ducks -- I found those at Wal-mart in the baby section for $1.00 each. I thought of this, since you mentioned jewelry, and the gems would mimic that. As for neat, practical favors, I keep thinking of magnetic lists for the fridge. There are so many designs out there; I've found many at the dollar store. You could put a pretty ribbon (in pink, brown or green!) around each one, then load them in a big bowl or basket as part of the decorations. To connect them to the party, you could have the guests write baby advice on the top sheet and give it to the mom-to-be. If you find the lists for $1.00 each, perhaps you could also include an inexpensive colored pen or something. Please forgive this long note -- I love planning parties! Good luck!

M. D,

I understand where your coming. Money is definitely tight. I have thrown a couple of baby showers and I kept it as cheap and pretty as possible. I found decorations and gifts for games at Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Party City(look at clearance and marked down items). For gifts I bought little things like candles, nail clipper sets, small picture frames, and more. Those things cost only $1-$3 a piece at Dollar Tree. I couldn't believe I found gifts like that in Dollar Tree! All of the guests loved their simple gifts and the Mom-To-Be loved everything as well.

You mentioned your friend's not big on chocolate, but how about ordering some personalized M&M's (http://www.mymms.com/)? You can pick the colors and the text, then put about 10 or so candies in a party favor holder of your choosing. It would be cute, memorable and economical. Good luck!

Just a thought - but do you have to give a favor to the guests? I have been to probably seven baby showers over the last two years and I have never received a favor. I guess I'm going to the wrong showers! Anyway, the first thing I thought of but it may be overdone is you can buy cheap small bottles at the dollar store. Fill them with candy or whatever. Easy and cheap!
One other idea for the mom-to-be is for you to make or decorate a heartfelt box or storage chest. Then find some cute stationary or letter paper or decorate plain paper with ribbons or stamps. Find envelopes that match as well. Then number each envelope 1 through 18 (duplicate the numbers depending upon the number of guests). Then have each of the guests take a piece of paper and an envelope and have them write a "happy birthday" greeting to the baby for each year. My friends did that for me, and each year is so special opening a new card on my son's birthday. So inexpensive but from the heart. And it lasts for years! Good luck!

I really like the booties made out of styrofoam cups. You could fill them with reese's pieces or go to one of those candy stores and get jelly beans in brown, pink and lime green.

I also like the centerpiece idea with the floating duckies.

Good ideas!

I bought some small glass desk picture frames at the Dollar store. My friend had a train theme, so I printed off the cutest locomotive picture and put it in the frames to go with her theme. I also bought some fridge magnet frames and scaled the pic down to put in those frames, as well. I wrapped them all up in cellophane wrap and tied with a ribbon. They were a hit!

Hi M.,

My sister-in-law had little plants in small pots for everyone with a stick that wraped the pot with the babys name. I thought that it was very unique and cute.

Good Luck!
