Baby Shower Cake
I am looking for a cute cake for my sister's baby shower. I am on a pretty small budget but do not want it to look like it!! Anyone have any suggestions on where to look?

I have to say, the best cake I have had is a fresh sheet cake from Kroger bakery. I even took the invitation up there and they copied the theme onto the cake. The cakes are pretty cheap (around $20 for a large one) and with buttercream icing, it was delicious! Everyone kept asking me where I got the cake! Good luck!

I might be willing to do this. I have taken the Wilton classes and done this in the past. I could send you pictures. How much are you looking to spend and when is the shower?

Hi A.,
I am a self-taught cake decorator and would love to help you out. I have several shaped pans. I am able to freeform some cute things as well (such as "baby blocks" "umbrella" etc.) I am trying to build a larger portfolio as I only have a few pictures on myspace. You can see them at www.myspace.com/homebakedcakes Let me know what you think. My prices are pretty much just for supplies right now. Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi A.,
My mom bought by baby shower cake at Walmart. It was delicious and many of my guests asked where she had bought it. We were even able to get half chocolate/half white cake. (The cake was very moist and the icing was light/fluffy) The design was so cute too...they used small rubber "bath" ducks on top and made it look like they were swimming on a pond of water. I can try to send you a picture if you would like?? I can also find out exactly what it cost, but I know my mom didn't want to spend a lot, but also wanted something very cute too. If you'd like more specifics, let me know and I will get them for you. J.

a friend of mine has the cupcake holder that you might have seen at craft stores or walmart. it's in a triangular/cone shape and it's silver and somewhat decorative. we did a cupcake tree instead of a cake for a shower. i used it as the centerpiece on table, so i saved even more money there. i sprinkled some inexpensive baby confetti stuff on the table, put the stand in the middle and placed the cupcakes in the holders. everyone thought it was really cute. we did strawberry cupcakes (it was for a girl) and white icing. you can dress up the cupcakes with some sprinkles or something decorative as well.
good luck.

I'm not sure how small your budget is, but I always use Texas Star Bakery in Hurst. They have a cake pricing and servings chart on the website so that you can get an idea of how much your cake could cost. They will pretty much make anything you want them to, like if you can describe it or give them a picture.
Hope this helps!!!
