Hi Everyone,

The group of us hosting a shower for a mutual friend need some recommendations for food ideas. Our friend is doing an Aloha theme for her baby's room and it will be the shower theme as well. We want to have it as a luncheon...We are also want to watch our budgets. Any ideas on appetizers or maincours..we are ok with punch ideas and of course a fruit tray.

What can I do next?

Have you looked into Corky's Catering? They are very inexpensive and have a Hawaiian themed food package. We were very pleased with it at my husband's Aloha party last year.

Good Luck!

Last Saturday I just hosted a Hawaiian bridal shower. I put umbrellas in the drinks (Oriental Trading or a party store...cheap!!).

Here's a great punch recipe everyone loved.

1/2 gallon combination sherbet cut into pieces when putting the whole thing together.
one 2- liter bottle of ginger ale
one 2- liter bottle of 7 up
one 32-oz bottle of (good quality) pineapple juice
as much rum as you like...or none
fresh grapes cut in half, quite a few sliced strawberries, fresh raspberries, orange segments, and fresh pineapple.

Hi Jennifer,

Don't forget to buy a tape or CD of traditional or contemporary Hawaiin music -- really brings everything together. Maybe find kitchy standing hula girl dolls for centerpieces. Also, can buy young Thai coconuts (Whole Foods carries but Asian market would be cheaper) and have the tops cut off with a knife (more like a cleaver and you have to chop and chip away to slice the top off) with a straw -- fun healthy drink but something in the blender would be easier...

Good luck!

Barbara

We did an aloha theme for my sister's bachelorette party. We had Hawaiian pizzas (chicken or ham, and pineapple), tropical fruit salsa, macadamia nut cookies, and a pineapple that we stuck fresh fruit skewers into, kind of like those Edible Arrangement designs. Or if you want to spend the money, the Edible Arrangement products are so pretty. Have fun!

We used a hawaiian theme for my son's 1st birthday & my Aunt's 50th. A traditional luau has a roasted pig - so we did pulled pork samwiches, fried rice (chicken helper variety without the added chicken was very good and cheap), spinach salad with cut straberries, blueberries, mandrian oranges, chopped walnuts w/poppyseed dressing, and then everyone's favorite - fruit skewers (pineapple, green grape, strawberry, pineapple, red grape, etc). The skewers were a LOT of work, but by far the favorite. If you can go to Costco to get the pineapples and they have huge and yummy red and green grapes, as well as nice strawberries. You can also buy potstickers at Costco that are quite yummy Asian appetizers. I also have the recipe for a delicious warm(crockpot)crab dip if you want to dive into the ocean part of the luau - I think you should be able to respond to me through Mamasource if you want that recipe. Oriental Trading dot com also has about a million decorations for luaus - we found the grass table skirts made a big impact for the smallest price. Good luck and have fun!
