Infant Baby Shower - Melvindale, MI

I'm having a baby shower in about a month. I'm having a baby girl and i was looking for games to play. It seems like you always play the same games at showers all the time so i was wondering if anybody had any unique suggestions?

What can I do next?

we played the baby game where everyone is given a safety pin to wear on their shirt and if someone says baby you get to take their pins, the one with the most at the end wins. Baby bingo is another fun one. Set up a blank bingo board and photocopy it. Give each person a sheet and they fill it out with baby item names. As mom opens her gifts she calls out what she got and if someone put it on their page mark it. Bingo's get prizes. Another fun one at unisex parties is to put beer (or soda for just mom's) into baby bottles and have the participants race to empty their bottles.

Hi C. C. there is actually a fun little book called "Baby Shower Etiquette" it has all the games under the sun to play at the showers. It even has fun little foods to serve. What the prizes should be and even a section in it to show how to include dad if he attends. Hope this is helpful. Also go to google and search for baby shower games. That should be equally helpful.

tasting/smelling baby food to see if people could guess what it was.
You start with a bit of baby food on a diaper (so that it would look like it was used) but not too much. Everyone would then smell it. Then everyone got a taste. Then everyone could guess.
Some flavors are alot easier than others but it is still fun

Rice with saftey pins in it. Who ever found the most won. It is harder than it sounds because the pins and the rice feel the same.

when we did the shower for my sister we put different items that had strong smells in diapers (examples: toothpaste, coffee, mustard) we wrapped them all up like they were dirty diapers and numbered them and passed them around in a cute basket, people had to guess what they were by the smell of the diaper, it was quite fun and we got alot of strange answers.
Hope you have a good time

I did a shower last year and really tried to do new things also. Also good to have everybody write their address on a blank envelope to make thank yous easy. I did pre-printed answer sheets for these, and stapled, handed to everyone.

1. In the set for the guests I also included an extra sheet (not given to mom to be). It says to write down what mom says when she opens your gift, Supposedly this is what was said in the bedroom the night the baby was concieved. ie.. its so small! its a truck! what's this for? Its fun to read them back after gift opening.

Its fun to leave another space on the this page for advice for new mom. Things you wish you knew.

2. WHITE WHAT? I took empty baby food jars (my daughter and I love to eat hawaiian delight) and put to the top white item from the kitchen, we numbered them. No opening the jar I did a little intro about how much time women arent spending in the kitchen, if they can't tell basice ingrediants. sugar, powdered sugar, baking soda, baking powder, flour, cornstarch, salt

3. The many people at this shower were people magazine addicts, so I did name the celebrity baby (first name) I just clipped pictures of the parents, pasted to construction paper, and numbered.

4. TV SITCOM CHILDREN I listed ten tv shows and had people list the names of the children in the show. I did put blanks on the pre-printed page (6 for brady bunch)

HI C.,

Congratulations!!! My daughter is having a boy (she lives with me) and I am freaking out on the other side. Both sides of our family is all girls and we have no idea what to do with a boy lol.
I sent out a request over freecycle.org for baby shower ideas and received sooo many responses. Some of them were so original. I put them together (copies of the email responses basically, that I liked) and would be happy to email it to you.
Also, my daughter just walked in to tell me a game that the father's mother put together. I think it's a great idea for her and for you. She's passing out a clean diaper to each guest as they walk in with a pen or marker. The guest is supposed to write a message for the mom on the diaper. They're going into a bag labeled midnight diapers and are to be used when she has to get up in the middle of the night to change them. I thought what a great idea to help perk you up when you're exhausted and maybe crabby. That little smile when you need it. If they sign the diaper you can use them to pull a name also for a gift.

Let me know if you want me to send the games. I threw two in a row and had run out of ideas and there are some nice ones in there.

One that my mom did at my shower for my first daughter was a scrap book. So it's not necessarily a game but more an activity. As people arrived they were sent to a small scrap book with all sorts of baby stickers and baby shower decorations. Each guest was asked to decorate one page and then leave its partner page blank. Then as gifts were opened she took a picture of me and the guest and the gift. So We have a record of each person there, the gift and a message for your unborn baby. Now that my daughter is 4 she can see her in my belly and all the people that gave her gifts and how much she was loved by everyone before she was born.

One of the games I had at my shower was where you put fun size candy bars into diapers and microwave them for about twenty to thirty seconds. You have them numbered and you pass them around to your guests to see how many they can identify. The only rule is that they can't taste or touch the chocolate. My guests had a blast with this one! Hope it was helpful! B. Oh yeah congratulations!!!

Hi C.,
Just to add to the game list below, I like a version of BINGO, but instead you make up cards and write STORK on top. Then have the guest fill in the spaces of their own card with guesses about what presents you will get, then while you open gifts they play bingo, it gives the guest something to do especially if your having a big party and opening gifts can take a long time.
If you plan on playing the game were the guest measure your belly I suggest you don't use toilet paper but use string instead, At my baby shower when I saw all that toilet paper I wanted to cry,the string makes it look like less.
Good Luck
~J.
