What sort of shoes should a baby wear in the summer months between the age of 6-10 months. These would be pre-walking shoes.

What can I do next?

I love pedipeds and have used them with both of my boys. They are great real leather shoes. Go to their website pediped.com and they have a store locator there.

Robeez were fantastic! You can get them on-line on-sale at Piperlime.com . Amazon.com, and Baby Cheapskate.com. I've also found them on sale at Macy's. Enjoy!

Hi there!
Most important they need to be sturdy. If you can bend the sole than they are not good. Real lather shoes are good because their skin can breath and they won't get stinky, sweaty feet. Stride-rite makes good shoes and Mr. Brown's (or something like that), you can get them at Famous Footware. If you get sandals I would also make sure the front around the toes is closed so they don't bang them.
Hope that helps!

No shoes are best. However, were we live that isn't always possible... so robeez or similar soft slippers are great if you have to protect those little feet from the elements.

My daughter lived in Robeez (and bare feet) and that's what I plan to do for my son this summer also. Different stores (babies r us for sure) sell imitation Robeez for about $12, and while they don't hold up as well as the real thing they're still great :)

those little soft booties are the best - Target sells some for next to nothing. You really only need them to protect the feet if they are crawling outside, otherwise bare feet or socks is best for them.

socks. barefoot.

If she's not walking, then protecting his feet is not the issue b/c his knees and hands, and even belly are all on the ground too. At this point, shoes are purely fashion, so I'd save my money.

When she starts walking, then a flexible sole with light tread is good. Pedipeds are cool, but were too wide for my daughter so I got a Koala shoe $12 which is a similar style and was VERY happy with them.

I would say no shoes, when possible, and when shoes must be worn, Robeez. I loved them and agree with the mama who said they're worth every penny! Besides, at that age the shoes will probably not get very dirty, and you can alway re-sell at a garage sale or on E-Bay.

Agree - no shoes are best. Pediped, however, makes the next best thing to bare feet (www.pediped.com). Robeez also are a good call. The softer the better!

The best advice we had on this subject was from our pediatrician who said not to get sucked into the "proper foot formation" argument you hear at StrideRite.

Do we still shop there? Yes.

But, with both kids his only recommendation was something that provided "environmental protection" - basically, something to protect their feet from splinters, heat, dirt, etc.

He liked Robeez. We wish we'd found PediPeds earlier. Crocs have been a Godsend as both kids have wide feet. Children's place usually has great sandals/water shoes that we used a lot before 2 years old.

Just make sure their feet are protected, and you should be OK.
Good luck!

Barefoot is best, if not barefoot than anything that mimics it - Robeez or similar are great!

My daughter was in physical therapy and her therapist always said no shoes is the best way to go. We always just let our daughter go barefoot or put thin socks on her.

my physical therapy friends state that young babies should not wear any shoes - instead try non-skid socks. but honestly the best thing (as long as the environment is safe) is to let your baby go barefoot. Then he/she can wiggle toes, grip the floor, balance his/herself, and push off with his/her feet muscles.

typically shoes are good once he/she starts to walk (but even primarily then outside to help protect feet). once he/she become more proficient at walking you can look for shoes that help support the ankles.

I did bare foot or sandals in the summer only reason I did sandals is we have stickers in our yard and did sandals to keep stickers out of his feet.

I swear by Robeez. It is more protection than non-skid socks, but doesn't stick their feet in formed shoes too early. When my son started walking we tried a few, then went to See Kai Run - wish I had seen these earlier - love them!

We let our boys go barefoot inside, but outside they wore Robeez. We loved them! We tried the less expensive ones at Target, but they started to fall apart within a few weeks. Our oldest used one pair of Robeez until he outgrew them. Now our second one is wearing them, and they're still looking great!

Most docs seem to feel that the baby develops better without shoes, especially when they aren't walking yet and don't need them for protection.

Neither of my children wore shoes in warm weather at that age, I didnt see a reason. And while learning to walk they are not supposed to wear shoes of any kind. My first got her very first pair of shoes at her first bday but they were just to go with her dress! lol

They do make these little leather shoes- soft leather all over. I had one pair for my second child as she is a summer baby and was in the 6-10mos age zone during winter and I wanted to obviously keep her feet warm.

I'm not anti-shoe. :-) I just was told by my pediatrician, and my mother, to not buy them unless I wanted to for LOOKS, as they were unnecessary in most circumstances. I felt like I had better things to spend money on, that's all.
