Baby Names What Do You Think?

Thomas Daniel. How about Lillian Sage for a girl & you can call her Lily for short. Remember when you spell their names differently to be unique they will always get spelled wrong by teachers & everyone else. I would go with the simplest spellings to make it easier.

it sounds funny but when we were looking through names for our son i yelled them. i knew i would have to some day so i yelled the names to see how they sounded. i vote Daniel Thomas and Lillian Rose or you could just do Lily Ann good luck it is a tough choice ;)

I like Thomas Daniel for a boy. And for a girl you have lots of great names! If you pick Sage I would spell it like Sage. I love Lillian, Xanthe (very original), Rosemary and Patricia. Good luck to you!

I like Daniel Thomas a bit better than Thomas Daniel, but they are both good names.

Sage is the correct spelling; I'd steer clear of names with invented spellings.

I'd also steer clear of celebrity baby names. Go for the classics, the names that can't possibly become outdated and embarrassing -- Rose, Patricia, Abigail.

Lillian is a great choice, because it is not really common these days, but is a traditional name that has been around a long time.

Trisha and Abby work as nicknames if you name your daughter Patricia or Abigail.

Names are tough aren't they?!

I particularly like Thomas Daniel for a boy. My son met a boy at the playground last week named "Tobin" which I thought was a strong name (if ever we were to have another!).

Your girl choices...not as clearly decided on but Emily Saige (prefer that spelling for originality) or Miranda Rose are cute.

I do like unique names but always tend to go back to classic.

Of course some of it will depend on how it sounds with your last name, but for the boy name I like Daniel Thomas. Danny and Dan sound better than Tom and Tommy, to me.

For the girl name, I have always loved the names Lillian and Lily. Lillian Rose sounds really pretty.

I think Saige is a pretty way to spell it, if you use that for a middle name. For a first name it would be no fun because they would always have to tell everyone how it's spelled and correct people but for a middle name it's beautiful and unique.
My favorite combinations would be
Emily Saige
Lillian Rose
Andrea Saige
Rachael Rose is kinda cool.
I'm not fond of either names using the John.

I also like Ruby Lorraine and Miranda Rose for a girl, and Daniel Sage for a boy

I just wanted to add: Several of your top names were on the top 10 list for 2008 [Social Security]...so you may want to take a look at popular baby names to see which ones were a little less popular. Apparently there will be lots of other Emilys, Abigails and Daniels out there.

i myself like Abigail Rose. I love the name Abigail, only because my oldest daughter is Abigail. But he rmiddle name is Christine. But Abigail Rose is a beautiful name. And for your boy name Daniel Thomas.

I prefer Daniel Thomas to Thomas Daniel but that is just me.

For a girl with what you have I would do Miranda Saige? It is obvious you like Saige (I do too!) so I would keep that. I'm not too fond of Emily, it is SOOO common. Patricia Saige is very pretty too, she could choose to go by Patricia, patty, or trisha!

Hi -

They're all cute, but I would recommend against a name where you have to let people know how to pronounce it (like Xanthe). Another thought - do you like the possible nicknames? You know that a Thomas is going to be Tommy in school.

Other than that, and this is just my opinion, I really like Daniel Thomas, Abigail, and Emily Saige.

Have fun with the names! That's such a fun part of pregnancy.

I like both boys' names. If I were you, I'd go with the one where you like the nickname the best: Tom or Dan. Even if you don't want to use the nickname, it might eventually happen anyways!

I like Emily Lorraine, but not Saige (for a first or middle name....unless it's a family name and has special meaning for you.)

The only first name I don't like is Xanthe. You might think it's cute, but your daughter might have to spend her whole life pronouncing and spelling her name to everyone she meets.

I went through this issue with my children... My name is M. (My-Leesa, not Melissa) :) And we named our daughter, my first born, AdahLisa (Add a Leesa, Adah is Hebrew for "a beautiful addition). I love unique names, thus gave my daughter one. HOWEVER, when I was younger, and I was sick of correcting people about my name, I went by my middle name (Rachel)... and so I gave my daughter that option as well with Ruth being her middle name.

We did things a bit differently with our son. His name is Forest (after his great great grandfather - who he shares a birthday with btw) and William Noal are his 2 middle names. All the first born boys in my husbands family have the middle name Noal - I'm not a fan, but I didn't want to break with tradtion so we went with 2 middle names! So, when my son get sick of people yelling at him "run Forest run" he can go by William. :)

So, all that to say this. If you are going to go with something unique it would be nice to your child's sanity to give an option of a "normal" name to go by... and two middle names can solve that in some cases.

Whatever you choose, please go with "normal" (meaning: as close to phonetic or traditional spellings) as possible.

This will help your baby out a lot as she grows up- she won't have forms mislabeled; people will be less likely to mis-pronounce; just less confusion all around. I'm a teacher and all the crazy spellings sometimes drive me nuts. Kids have a hard enough time trying to learn how to spell things correctly as it is. English is a crazy language!

If you go with the middle name Sage - I'd go with the spelling SAGE - since that is the normal spelling. It will help the child know the correct spelling of the spice, too. I've always thought Lorraine is pretty however, it is an older name too. If you like Emily - I've also seen the spelling Emilie if you are wanting something more unique. This is just my opinion - but going for a first name that you don't have to "explain" the pronunciation or spelling is always best. The child will thank you in the end. Teachers, friends, parents, co-workers will all know HOW to say the name, spell the name, and the child can actually spell it without a lot of confusion. Go with your gut with the name choice. How does it sound with your last name?? Go with something more unique if you have a common last name ie. Jones, Smith, etc. Also, if you're into nicknames - see if that determines your choices in names. Rule some names out by thinking of possible jokes kids could come up with. Sometimes it could be from the initials, rhyming words, etc.

Even if YOU guys prefer the "whole" name, others will still shorten it..... My husband and I chose names that couldn't be shortened for our 2 kids. Because both of our names can be and are by almost everyone. (Michael/ Mike and my name is M./ Mandy). Some people don't even know my "real" name is M.. LOL. So if he is NOT going to want people to shorten it, pick names that can't be. Our kids are Hannah and Jack for that very reason.

I also agree with names that you will have to correct people. Stay away from unique spelling. My friends sister just named her baby Cayse (pronounced CASE). EVERYONE is calling him (CASEY). He will be correcting people his whole life....

I hope if you decide to give her a name with an unusual spelling or a distinctive way of pronouncing, you will educate her to not get bent out of shape when people do misspell or mispronounce it. I see this all the time in the classroom and I wonder what parents were thinking with this creative bestowing of names. Seriously, some kids get really upset if you ask them to help you learn to spell or pronounce their names. It singles them out in a way which makes them feel uncomfortable.

Ultimately, I think the decision is up to you but I just wanted to share one thought with you. I see a few of your possible names have parenthasis showing how to pronounce them. Coming from come someone who has to correct people each time they mispronounce my name, believe me when I tell you that it becomes a hassle. If you can stay away from the names you have to explain how to pronounce, i'd recommend it!

You should go with what you like best. What can you picture calling them when they are young and also when they are older? I would maybe shy away from names that are hard to pronounce, as they will always have to correct people...
