Baby Names Question

My hubby and I are trying for baby #2! I'm not pregnant yet (that I know of), but I've already started thinking of baby names. We really enjoy just talking about different names and getting comfortable with what we really like. With our first son we had his name picked out before we even got married, because of family tradition (our son is the 4th gen. of Robert R. - he goes by Riley). We already know several girls names we like, but I'm stuck on my favorite boys name. My favorite boys name is Jadon, and has been for many years, long before it became one of the most popular names for boys.

So after all my rambling, my question is how important is it to you if the name you love is a popular name? I'm torn, because I LOVE this name, but I don't want my son (if that's what we have) to be stuck with a name that 10 other kids in his class have. Like I said, I've always loved this name, and I was very disappointed when it started popping up on top name charts (I just saw it's #7 for boys). So, what do you think? Will it be a plague to name a baby one of the top 10? Or should we just go with what we love?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the advice! My husband and I love Jadon, so I think we'll go with what we love! Of course, the next one could always end up being a girl :)! We're just so excited about giving our son a little brother or sister!

Go with what you love - this coming from a mother of a "Nathan." I have had the name picked out way before I even met my husband. I just knew I would have a son and his name would be Nathan. I had only even known one Nathan in my life - then all of a sudden it seemed that they were everywhere - including two exes of mine that used the name!!!! I briefly considered something different, but I knew that in my heart it wouldn't be right. If you truly want a Jadon, then choose it and be happy with it! I hope that helps.

I would say to go with what you love. Robert is very common also. It won't matter to the kid. I've known so many Jennifers in my lifetime and none of them seem to be affected by the fact there was always another one in the class. Also, even though it is popular, I doubt there will be that many.

Congrats on the trying and GL on getting there!

Go with what you love. Parents love unusual names, but kids do not, at least not until they get older. Good luck with #2.

Well, my boys are Jacob and Joshua which have been numbers 1 & 3 for a long time. (I don't know if they still are though). If you like the name that much, go for it! My son is in first grade, and has a boy named Jacob in his class. He doesn't seem to mind. He's gotten used to being Jacob E.

I think Jadon is a sweet name, you should name him/her whatever you love. I think your spelling is different. I've seen Jaden and Jayden. Anyway, I like the pop names to, do what you like. :)

My name is J.. You couldn't throw a stick at my school without hitting a girl named J.. Didn't bother me then at all. I don't deal with many Jennifers now. Yes, I hear the name here and there, but I've never even worked at a company that had another J. in it.

So do what you like -- Name him Jadon...I think it's sweet.

Well, I'm a Jennifer. I don't think there was a year of school where I wasn't "J. P" to avoid confusion with J. R., J. M,. etc. It was a hugely popular name at the time. But you know what, I'm J.! And I can't imagine being anybody else! My mom chose my name when she was a little girl. I'm glad she didn't change it because of its popularity. I say go with what you love!

maybe you'll have a girl. :)

I think Jalyn(jay-lyn) is a nice female form of Jadon(Jaden).

Go with what you like. My sis loves the name Madilyn, and she had another Madilyn in her preschool class and we live next to a Madison. They are everywhere.
My sons name is Michael Aidan. We loved Aidan but it was my cousins sons name and, again, oh so popular. We also liked Michael, which orig I had pictured as a middle name. So, we just kept taking names we liked and paired them together until we loved it.

Keep in mind not only will Jadon be trendy-popular, it's also going to rhyme with all the other suddenly popular names like Haydon, Cadon, Braydon, Mason (well, it sorta rhymes). Anyway, just food for thought.
