Baby Names
What do you all think about the Paisley for a girl? Please be honest. I love the name, but I don't want her to hate it.

Go to a playground and yell out the name. See what the kids' responses are. I've heard of people doing this to see if the name would get made fun of or not. One of my friends was doing to name thier daughter Venus, until they yelled it out at a playground. The got "Venus has a (fill in the blank with a male body part). :) Hope this works for you.

Well the first thing that popped into my head was the country singer Brad Paisley..lol..but I think it's cute, I tried to give each of my kids different names that you don't hear too often. I say just go with what you like :)

Personally, I don't like it. I think it's too similar to parsly and you know little kids are fgoing to make that connection too. Also in my opinion paisley print is rather unattractive. I wouldn't want to name my child afer a type of fabric print even if it wasn't an unattractive one.
Honestly, not trying to be rude, just my first impressions about the name.

I must be the oddball... I think it's a very weird name for a child. I also think it's sort of cruel to give a child an odd name that is just begging to be made fun of. Yes, kids will be kids and pick on most names, but why make your child an easy target? My sister had one and was made fun of her entire childhood and she HATED her name. She was begging my parents to change her name by the time she was in 1st grade but of course they refused. She legally changed it to something a bit more normal as soon as she hit 18. I'm just really glad my parents came to their senses before picking my name. My name wasn't common but it certainly wasn't totally 'out there', either. I never got picked on because of my name, anyways.

I think it is a beautiful name. Just remember that you are the one who will be saying this name daily for the rest of your life, and you don't want to wish you had gone with what you loved every time you say her name! If Paisley feels right, then Paisley she is!

I think it's a beautiful name-what a great selection! I personally enjoy unique names and think it's great when people are creative and come up with something beyond the usual names. I think at some point in our lives we've all wished we had a different name, but when it comes down to it, unless it's ridiculous (which some creative names are), your daughter will be just fine with it.

My daughter has a very original name, and everybody loves it. I personally don't like the name Paisley because it reminds me of of the print, which I don't like. However, if you are the one that has to choose the name for your baby. There will always be people that don't like the name you pick, whatever it is. I think you should just go with your heart.

I don't want to sound rude but I don't like it at all. Of course it is up to you and your husband but I wouldn't name your child because you want to be different. People style their hair or carry a funky purse to be different. Although my name isn't that different it is rare and I get SO sick of correcting everyone all the time, and as a kid I was always so bummed cause my name was never on the name stuff like pencils and barrettes and stuff. Good luck! I hope that helped.

Well my first thought was of the fabric design. But otherwise it's different and it you like it no I mean Love it then that's what you should pick. There is NO name that everyone will like. You should pick a name your in love with and that you can see yourself saying for the rest of your life. If Paisley is it then go for it!

my first impression is that it was cute, but a little odd. I think no matter what you name your kiddo, they always grow into it and the name typically always fits. I can't really think of anything too bad that kids could make out of it either, so that is always a plus.
Alternatives in keeping the name would be to give her two middle names (like I and my daughter both have) and she could always choose to use one of those instead. Options are good :)
She could always end up with a nickname out of it too...Pace. Pacie. Lee.
Way to reach out for the uncommon....I'm sure she'll appreciate it.

I think Paisley is fine, just think of all the girls that will have that name because a parent is a big Brad Paisley fan! He is a hometown boy here, I expect to see that name popping up. When I was picking out names for my kids, I would think of as many ways as possible to "pick on the name" If I couldn't think of anything bad, I figured that was a good thing. I have a Lindsay and a Camden!

I love it myself. I heard a father at our public pool call his daughter that and I asked about it. Her name was Paisley Ann. From that day I always said that I would name my daughter that, but when it came down to it, I chickened out for the very reasons some of the other responders have said, and it was no one else's decision to make but my own. I remember thinking that Paige was a horrible name the first time I heard it (pages are in books or Gage, we know what gauges are), but now think how popular those names are. People with common names either love them or hate them for being too common. People with unique names are going to either love it or hate it for various reasons -- too hard to pronounce, made fun of, whatever. I feel like the person makes the name not the other way around. So, I say if it is what you want, go for it. You can always give her a more common middle name and if she really hates when she gets older, she can always go by her middle name instead.

I really like it. I am all for an original name. Mine is T., and yes as a child I hated it because I always had to correct people when they said it. But then when I grew up I loved it because nobody else has this name.... at least that I have met. I think if you love that name.... then name away. As far as other children making fun of your daughters name.... it can happen with any name. My nick name is Toddy, and I was always potty toddy... UUGGHH. But we grow up and realize that it isn't a big deal. IF you really like the name, then it will work for you, no matter what anybody else thinks. who knows she may be as unique and wonderful as the name.
Good luck, and congrats.

I really don't care for it. Maybe as a middle name, but I wouldn't use it as a first name.
