Baby Name Ideas - Rochester,NY

My first son I named Jordan Eugene. Jordan,because i liked it Eugene after an important family member. so far for a second son we have picked Connor Gabriel,Connor as its one of the few names we can agree on and Gabriel after me. I like the idea of fist names that you just like and middle names that have meaning (and may not be as "cute" )

I can relate to the problem, we still haven't found a name for a girl we can agree on.

We couldn't decide on a name until the day we left the hospital! We had listed out a bunch, but didn't like any of them much. We actually went with a name that neither of us had ever really brough up, his name is Brody and it suits him just fine! I saw the name Nolan mentioned on this list; which I love!

One of my sons is Nicholas but I really wanted Niko...sounds like "Neeko". Greek, strong, masculine. My husband didn't like it, but I loved it!
Took a short list to the hospital and waited to see what he/she looked like. Some names to me anyway, sound like it could be for a blonde or vica versa. Not logical I know!

I think "real" names are the strongest. I am not a fan of unusual or "trendy". Someday he's going to be an adult and has to live with the name you choose. You are setting him up for his life really. We named our son Charles and our next will either be Henry or George. Spelling is also important. I see the name Aiden thrown around a lot. It's actually spelled Aidan.

I like strange names that no one else has, but in that respect it is like buying a car, there are none like it until your car is in the lot and every other car is the same color or make. Anyway, I named my sons Tobiason (Toby for short) Davis and Dawson Blake, I thought about Devin Blake, but finally decided on Dawson. No matter what name you go with, I am sure he will be a beautiful baby boy. Let us know what you named him, and good luck!!

i completely understand on the whole issue with names...i had a lil girl almost 2 yrs ago, and there are a majority of girls in our family (both sides...and i only had chosen a few boys names) here is a website that has a discussion on strong popular masculine names (some of which i personally like) but only have a couple of american and english names listed.

i personally a completely in love with the name Vincent. i find it to be VERY strong...but most don't like it unless they're Italian, plus you said different. for different I've always liked Xander or Zander, Aiden, Reiley (both Aiden and Reiley were a ? of which to be the middle name, but both used together), and Stavros (which is a greek name). my friend wanted to name her son Xavier Matthew, and one friend named her son Anakin. I was told that Anakin wasn't just Vader in Star Wars...it's English for Warrior, and was a Nobel warrior in some Shakespeare plays, and a knight at King Arthur's round table....though i personally feel that no one (unless they truly are into King Arthur or Shakespeare) will think of anything other then Star Wars with that name..but that's just me. it really has to be what YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND like...i hope that some of this was help...even if just to eliminate some names off the list. good luck, and congrats!

My advice would be for your husband and yourself to go through a baby name book separately and make a list of every name that you would even consider. Then cross reference the lists. You may end up with a lot of names that you both like. Or like my husband and myself, you may end up with just one! With both of our boys we had ONE name on our lists in common.

My son's name is Ian (his middle name is Douglas). My favorite boy's name was Jared, but my husband couldn't stand that.

You may not be able to avoid giving your child a name that someone else in your church has named their child, and you don't need to. No one has "ownership" of a name. I wouldn't name your child the same thing that your siblings or Dh's siblings named their kids, but it's going to be hard to find a name that's not totally bizarre that you don't know anyone else with. If you pick a name that a friend/family member you see regularly has picked, try to choose one that has different nicknames (like if you pick Robert and the other person's kid is called Bobby, when it's time to nickname, call your son Rob, or if you pick William and their kid is known as Billy, you can call yours Will if you want a nickname).

I am done having kids but if I were having a boy right now, Gavin Bryce would be my pick.

We named our son Emery which we've gotten a lot of compliments on. I also love the name Jackson since you can shorten it to Jack, which to me is a really strong name. Good luck with the name quest!!

What about David? It's not really different, but I don't hear the name too often anymore, and I think it's a strong name.

S., i think this is a very personal decision, and i struggled the same way when my daughter was about to be born, and we ended up drawing her name from a hat the night b4. lol. we picked our favourit names and drew... what is funny is the name we used was the third draw bc as we drew the first two reality of calling her that set in. either way my fav. boys names are noah, and benjamin and cole. good luck. and what a great idea asking others for ideas. hope all goes well for you.

I think most of us have some trouble with this one! It has to be meaningful to you and your husband only. Early in my pregnancy I knew if it was a girl I was naming her Francesca (frankie for short) and for a boy Frank Joseph (after his Father and Grandfather) I made the mistake of telling people and I received way to much feed back that I didn't want. I stuck to my guns and we now have our 16 month old son Frank Joseph III. I also have a friend of mine who picked out names but didn't tell anyone until they named the baby at the hospital, what a great surprise for everyone!

I recently heard the name Cooper for a little boy and thought that was nice. My son's name is Nolan. It is strong and perfect for his little Irish face.

Hi- I named my son Keith James (and we call him KJ) which he loves! He's 15 yrs old right now playing basketball, so "KJ" is pretty awesome when you're a ball player...I love the names Jordan, Cole and Liam. His name (and middle name) should fit with his last name. So keep that in mind when choosing. Pick the name (s) and say it over and over again coupled with the Last name!

I know how you feel. I was a teacher, so lots of names could have been a problem - thinking of less-than-favorite students, for example. However, the only two people that truly mattered were me and my husband. We had to pick a name that worked for us, regardless of who else had it. The only names we did't think about using were my brothers' names - in case they wanted to name a future son after themselves. Other than that, we didn't rule anything out. And the baby name book was a lot of fun!

Hi S. i just read your problem with naming your son. What did you name him. My boys are anthony john after my hubby,nad his dad and middle name after my dad. And my little guy is nicholas peter nicholas i just loved the name and peter after my brother in law. Let me know his name. Congrats

Wow, it looks like Aiden will top the boys name list next year. It's a nice, but I know 2 that were born this year. How about something Biblical. There are lots to choose from. More then you might think. My husband is from a big family and we have 3 boys, so it wasn't easy for us either. 2 of our boys have Biblical names. I know it's so hard picking names so it's something they won't get teased with, and their initials won't spell something bad, or it doesn't rhyme with your last name. So good luck there! Only a month to go!

I named my son Xavier and I am so happy my mother suggested it! It means "the light" in Arabic and of course, St Francis Xavier. It is an uncommon but recognized name and is very strong. He is so proud (he's 5) to have X in his name and it's a great name to learn spelling and sounds of letters. The only down side is, I can never find pre-personalized items with Xavier, but sometimes we sub Javier... we call him X, X-ee, and X-man for short. Jackson was on the table for a while, so was Harrison and Alexander. Good Luck! My mother also suggests that you read the credits next time you watch a movie-- there are good names there!

It's so funny because I don't agree with the ol' Romeo and Juliet saying, "Ah, what's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." I think there is more to a name than we think. When I was pregnant with my son, I picked out 3 names: Adam, Alexander, and Evan. I knew that if he was an Adam he would be quiet, reserved, smart. Alexander would have been strong and very intellectual...possibly deviant. Evan would have been more of a wild child all around. Well, we named our son Adam and he is reserved, likes routine, smart, and quiet. He isn't anyone but an Adam.

You mention that your family is large. What about combining 2 of the names of your favorite (influential) family members. If I had had a girl, I was considering naming her Samara (I am S., and my sister is Samantha aka Sam). So the name would have been a tribute to us both.

It's funny too because then you have to think about nicknames. I really like Harrison, but not Harry. Whatever you pick, your little boy will develop that personality. Good luck!

The only name my husband and i could agree on was Liam. It is short for William. I get complements for his name all the time. Plus it goes great with his last name. That's always important. Good luck! :)

My daughter named her son Silas Daniel. Silas is from the bible and Daniel is her sibling. It's definatley different.

when i was pregnant with my now 14-month old son, my dad was determined that we name him John Randall (after him & my father-in-law) but we each have multiple John's on both sides of the family so that wouldn't work. One day, my husband got a catalog in the mail for Nixon Watches. Jokingly, he said, "let's name the baby Nixon" and I said, "I love it"... so we have Nixon Connolly (my husband's great-grandmother's maiden name was Connolly, and she was still alive when Nixon was born). We don't get too many compliments, but he'll be the only Nixon in school and it's a name to remember... and no one else has their kid's name on their watch!

Hi S., How about Aiden, Lance, Coltan. My son is named after his father so that won't help, it's a common name Michael. I would of named my son Dillon James if I didn't name him Michael. Hope I helped a little!

We could only come up with one that we agreed on-out of like 500--- when we didnt know if it was a boy or girl.

There are lots of sites on the web if you do a search for baby names, and tons of books out there. I like names that are not heard everyday also, but I don't like names that are not names at all. Try names of a different ethnic orgin,historical or biblical names. My husband and i both have a Scotish,and Irish ancestrial line so we tend toward Irish and biblical names. Tristin, Gavin, Gaylin, Aiden, Colin, and Kieran are some of our favorites. Good luck you'll know the right one when you hear it.

hi. well i don't know if you have this one but my son was named after his 2 grandfathers. my dad was John (he's now passed away 3 years) and my ex father in law is Stephen. I named my son after his two grandfathers. I thought it was a nice combination so almost 18 years later he's Jonathan Stephen. I hope this helps. We liked Kyle Henry for our son. My husband is a jr (daniel) and he didn't want his son to be the third. He really wanted our son to have his own name. We liked Kyle- it's gaelic for handsome (and our son is really beautiful-aren't they all?!) His middle name is Henry after my father and brother. Henry means "leader of the house" so you put them together and you get the "handsome leader of the house." Good luck with your search!

If our second was a boy, we were going to name him Jack Christopher.

We just named our son Chase Michael. Its not common but not so far out there either. We call him "Chaser". Good luck.
