Baby Monitors - to Buy Another or Not??

We are in the same situation with a new baby due next month. My son doesn't seem to care so much about the monitor, but since the kids bedrooms are upstairs and our master is down, I feel more comfortable keeping one in his room for safety sake. If he had a problem, I wouldn't be able to hear him and he wouldn't be able to get downstairs to our room. I say if your son wants to keep it, he should. The transition will be hard enough on him anyway, let him keep his "radio."

I was actually thinking about posting a similar question to yours. I have seen dual monitors for two kids rooms and am wondering if we need to get one of those or just buy another one for the baby. Having two not made to go together could cause some feedback or other interference. I am very interested to hear what others have to say.

We didnt use ours too much when they got older now at 31/2 and 16 1/2 months we dont use it at all they both sleep through the night, and the way our rooms are we can hear them anyway with out it. If you dont want to put the expense of buying a new one or explaining to your boy why hes loosing his radio then hide it till the baby comes more than likely he will forget all about it, i know my son does when i take things i really dont want him to have or whatever, when he goes to sleep at night or when hes with my sister i take them hide them or throw it away, he never asks about it. Since you said you could probably hear him with out it, i would try it for now and see if you can, that way you will know for sure if you need to get another one or not. I have also heard of other moms that have had too much interference with them when you put more than one in a house, but you might be able to find something that will work. Have you checked online to see if you can make it a dual monitor by just adding another reciever (not sure it that is what they call them). I know most have and A and B channel so it can support up to two.

My daughters are 18-mos apart so we still needed 2 when the younger one was born. But, now at 3 1/2 and 5, we still use them! It's nice to be able to hear coughing, crying, etc. in the middle of the night without getting up to make sure it wasn't just a dream!

I quit using mine, when my neighbor had her baby and I started hearing the happenings in their house over mine...gave me the creeps wondering who had heard us!!

I just thought I would throw that in there as food for thought. I think if ever lived in a neighborhood again and had the need for the monitor, I would ask the neighbors if they use on :)

When my 3rd baby (my oldest was 3 and my middle was 1 1/2) was born we tried to use 2 seperate monitors on different channels, but we were not able to make it work. I ended up buying the monitor that does 3 rooms. It took some getting used to since it cycles thru a few seconds of each room, but we've been very happy with it and are glad we got it. I found it at Babies R Us. Congrats!

We were in the same boat a year ago when we had my youngest son. Our oldest son was almost 3, but I definitely liked the idea of being able to hear him - especially since we would have to keep his bedroom door closed so that he didn't hear the baby crying in the middle of the night. We tried several different monitors and discovered that the only one that would work is the Philips with DECT technology. It was the only monitor that did not create interference and static. We have a video monitor and the Philips one and we keep them both on at night. In our house (it is 2 story) you can't hear the kids downstairs without the monitor. Also, my oldest sons bedroom is sort of crazy...when the door is shut, you really can't hear ANYTHING while you're in it and you can't hear him while he is in it! We really decided that spending the extra money to get the DECT technology monitor was a good idea. Good luck! I think it is a wonderful thing to peace of mind. Also, your son is about to go through A MILLION crazy changes in his life once the baby comes. Why add one more change?

Hi G. your little guy sounds a lot like my 3yr old when our second son was born we bought walkie talkies just the little one not very expense and if he get scared or anything he picks it up and says "dad over" so it is very fun for boys.
