Baby Monitors
I have put off buying a baby monitor because of all the pros and cons and not being able to decide which one to get. Does anyone have a prefrence or recomendation? I wanted the one with video but have read nothing but bad reviews. Help before i waste money on a bad choice.

I want to tell you the most wonderful monitor that I have found. It is the AngelCare motion monitor. I found it gives me the best piece of mind. It detects motion and is a monitor as well that is extremely sensitive. So it gives you a bit of a piece of mind. I also have heard such bad things about the video monitor. Well I hope this helps.

I have the Safety first baby monitor from Wal-mart; ONLY $15, but it is sooo sensitive that I could hear my babies breathing! I had also thought about the expensive ones, and have had some regular monitors that were expensive, but I found this inexpensive one to be better. If you get a video monitor, I think it would be too easy to worry more, but I have personally never had one. I worried too much as a first time mom, but it soothed my nerves just to hear them breathe!

We have a video monitor and love it! Our daughter is 2 and we still have it up in her room. I think the brand is safety first. It also came with a sound only monitor you could use if needed although it really eats up the batteries.
When we first set the video one up we had a little trouble with reception but after playing with it a bit, it was fine.

I got one that just receives sound. It actually lights up to how much sound is coming through...then I read the best advice ever...if they baby needs you..you will hear him/her...I have lived monitor free since then and guess what my baby is now almost 1 1/2 years old and I can put him in his crib worry free. The problem with the monitor is that I put music on when he sleeps and the music would come through on the monitor. I have a good size house, but I still hear him when he is awake or has trouble falling asleep.

I also like the summer hand held video monitor. I have used the same one since my two year old was 4 months old and still use it for my 5 month old. I LOVE knowing if he has pulled a blanket over his head or if he's stirring w/ his eyes closed or if he's really awake. The video part has seriously been plugged in for like 2yrs non stop. I got it on ebay, but it wasn't that much cheaper than if I had bought it at the store. a good investment!

If you need help deciding on a product, go to www.Epinions.com or www.amazon.com. I usually go to Amazon first, write down a few that sound good, then go to Target.com or similiar site, check the reviews there for the same products, then decide. In my experience, a monitor is a monitor. They all pretty much do the same thing. I got the cheapest one on the shelf since we didn't have money when I had my son, and it worked just like it was supposed to: I could hear every breath he took for the first 3 years of his life and didn't sleep well again until I was finally able to say goodbye to it when he was 3. haha. ;-)

We have the Summer Infant video one too and it has been great. Static comes and goes if it is near a phone or remote, but that is to be expected. Haven't had the problem of seeing other babies or anything. To sum it up, we love it and it very useful if you have a two story home.

We bought the Summer Hand Held Color Video Monitor and love it. It's cordless, so you can tote it around with you, and recharges overnight when it's plugged into the mains in our bedroom. We have it pointed over the crib so we can always see what the little guy is doing. We wouldn't be without it.
