Thr "First Year's" ones at Target are reasonable and effective. We have two sets - one for my son and one for my daughter. 3 years with no problems, and great range.
Good Luck and enjoy every moment!!!

It depends on what features you are looking for...
We have the Angel Care monitor with movement sensor. http://www.angelcare-monitor.com/United-States/en/product...
There is an alarm that sounds if it doesn't sense the movement of the baby breathing. It has great reception and when the baby is older you can remove the sensor.

I always grabbed the less expensive monitors and was never happy with them. They can be staticy and I found I had to purchase a few as they would stop working.

If you have the means, get one of the higher quality ones, even a video monitor is wonderful. Sometimes you do get what you pay for with the less expensive ones.

We have the monitor above. I love it! It is pricey, but IMO worth it. In the beginning a thought a video monitor was over the top. But now, it is so useful. Once baby is a little older, they will want you as soon as you walk in the room, and you won't be able to get out!! Where as with the video you can see if they need you to come in. For example, if my little guy is still laying down or sitting he will stay like that for quite a long time, but if he is standing, I know I need to get in there soon before he starts ramping up!

LOVE LOVE LOVE our Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor! Having a video monitor is the absolute best and gives such piece of mind. My baby girl is 9 months old and we've had no issues with ours. Check out the book Baby Bargains. It's a book full of reviews on all baby gear. It was my "bible" when my husband and I were registering. Good luck and congrats!

Angel Care with movement sensor pad. This is awesome and lets you sleep more soundly knowing if there is a problem you will be alerted in 5 seconds.
