Hi mamas! My daughter is 10 months old and is getting her molars in. They look so sore!! First question, is it supposed to bleed and look nasty? It looks like someone went in there with a razor and just sliced her little gums. I see the white tips and its on both sides. I am 100% positive it is not a cut or anything like that. But is it supposed to look gross? It doesnt like bleed like drip blood, but its pretty red at the top. I heard molars arent supposed to come in until like 18 months..so heres my second question..when did your child(ren) get their molars?? TIA..
Thank you soo much for all the responses. Luckily she has no fever, but still is a little fussier. I have been periodically checking her gums and i think it was just her biting on something to relieve the pain. It is still swollen, but the redness went wayyy down and it doesnt look so choppy today-if that makes sense?
I have been giving her frozen cloths to chew on ever since i saw the bulging. We had a rough night the night before last, but she seems to be doing better. Thanks again for all the responses.

My daughter had a baby June 2nd, 2007 and her daughter got
her molars even earlier than that. Before all her front
teeth. I know she said she was not a very happy baby when they were coming in. If it were me I would take her to the doctor anyway to have them ckecked to be on the safe side.

my daughter started to get her first set of molars in at 13 months but they didnt break through the skin till 16 or 17 months. it takes her a long time to cut her teeth in. its hard to picture what your babies mouth looks like but maybe she is getting her top ones in too and shes possibly rubbing her sore gums together causing the top teeth to cut the bottom gums. have you started brushing or cleaning her teeth?. give her something chilly to chew on. also what was a life saver to me with my daughter was gentle naturals teething drops! they are homeopathic and worked well for my daughter (i got them at target for like 8 bucks). you could also give her tylenol or motrin every four hours too. if you are worried about how her gums look have her checked by her pedi or a dentist (my daughters first appt was at 13 months). good luck!
My son just got his molars at 13 months. They looked red, but not as bad as you described. He was in a horrible mood though while they came up, like screaming often which is not like him. It was really painful for him. I would give him chamomille drops, teething tablets, tylenol (he had a fever), and baby oragel on the molars. Even with all that, he would sometimes still be fussy. Good luck with the teething, at least it only lasts a little while.
Probably her molars. My oldest got his first tooth at 4 months and was an early teether in general. He got his 6 year molars at 4 1/2 and is now 10 and already has his 12 year molars. My second son wasn't as early.
The homeopathic remedy chamomilla in a 30c did and still does wonders for my boys when they are teething - even when they lose teeth. You can get that one at any health food store and even some Long's drugs carry it. It comes in a little blue tube and says Boiron on it. My pediatrician told me about the homeopathic 10 years ago and we've used it since. She is getting her one year old molars so it is the right timing. As far as how it looks, I would definitely take her to the Pediatrician to have it looked at. Yes, they'd be red and swollen and sore which is normal, but for peace of mind to make sure it's not infected or something, I would have it looked at. If it doesn't look right to you, something might be going on. Your Pediatrician can also tell you what you can give her to help (Tylenol, Motrin, Hylands teething tablets, wet wash cloth to chew on, popsicles, etc).
My dentist told me that there are no exact age that children get any of their teeth. I have a friend and her son is 17 months and just got his first tooth. There is a little girl at daycare that is 15 months and she has 4 of her molars. I have heard that it is very painful for them, that their gums get red and swollen as they are big teeth to come thru their little gums. when your child gets their molars just depends on the child, which teeth they already have and when they started teething in the beginning. It might get gross from the little bit of blood and food stuck to the gums so I would use the soft finger toothbrush in the infants section to massage her gums and gently clean them so they don't get infected. You could also give her hylands teething tablets and baby orajel before bed and eating to help soothe the pain and a cold washcloth to chew on during the day.
Have her DR. take a look at her. She very well may be getting her one year molars. My son's one year AND two year molars all came in at the same time when he was exactly one year!!! At one year he was DONE, he had all his teeth! Other than a few sleepless nights (from the pain) he had no other unusual signs, so I don't have any other advice for you, sorry. Motrin before bed and Hylands teething tablets during the day worked pretty well for him. While my almost 8 month old daughter has no teeth and is just now showing some signs of teething.
Again, take her to the Dr. every child is different.

She is within the "average" range as far as timing, but your description of how it looks in her mouth is a bit alarming. I am the mom of four, and I can't recall ever seeing that kind of thing going on in the mouths of my kids, but to be honest, I'm not sure I ever looked intently. I remember red and swollen, but as far as the razor blade thing - I'd take her to the doctor just to be on the safe side if it really looks like that.
Hi! I'm talking a pediatric dental assistant right now and she said you need to take her to a pediatric dentist right away. This is not normal! The dental assistants dentist can help locate a pediatric dentist in your area if needed.

My oldest got his first molars around 1 yo. He started getting teeth at 6 months! Then he got his second set of molars (the very back ones) just before he turned two. With him cutting teeth never really bothered him. He just drooled a lot constantly...still does at 3.5 years old. But I think his "2 yo Molars" as they are called, gave him a slight fever and that's it.
I wouldn't worry. It probably looks like that because your daughter is chewing on the already swollen gums to get relief from the pain. In a few days it should look better.
Just keep an eye for signs of infection....fever over 100 degrees, pulling on ears (sign of ear infection), lethargy, etc.
If they bother her, try Hyland's natural teething tablets. They are really helping my 17 month old, she is cutting 4 top teeth all at once right now :(!
Molars are painful, however, they shouldn't be bleeding. You may want to call your pediatrician.
The first molars are called "15 month" molars, but they can come in any time between one and two years old.
