I am breastfeeding our 1 month old. Does anyone know how to get those mustard yellow poopy stains out of clothes? I soak and treat them as soon as she soils them and nothing I've tried works. I have a good diaper on her (Pampers), but sometimes accidents happen.

What can I do next?

I breast fed also and I'd scrub stains out with just plain bar soap or Shout. I'd put a good amount of soap on not too long after the accident and scrub out the whole area. This seemed to work well. Hope this helps and good luck!

I swear by oxyclean spray. Just spray a little on the spot and let it sit for a few minutes before throwing it in the wash

I use cloth diaper and to keep them from staining I wash them with regular detergent (Wisk HE not dreft), I just use half as much as I would for my own cloths and I always do an extra rinse. This worked really well until my daughter started solid food.

hi T., i use melaleuca products, they are "green" products, healthier for all of you. they have a prespot that i use, it works great. i just spray it on and can leave the clothes in the hamper, the stains come out in the wash. if youre interested in signing up, let me know.

for stains, i would try simple green. it's got a huge list on the back of the bottle on what it can and can't take out...blood and grease happen to be on that list, and from what i know, there's 2 of the hardest things to get out of clothes. i have used it on my daughter's clothes for that nasty old formula smell that gets in the clothes when they're on formula (and NOTHING else worked). i also got some nasty stains out of my husband's work clothes. simple green is a safe product for everyone and anyone to use...a few people had suggested i use it when i was pregnant so that i wouldn't have to use bleach, or other harsh cleaning chemicals. you can get it at any home depot, i'm sure lowe's, and some paint stores. it may even be in supermarkets (i wouldn't know because a&p near me has hardly any kind of selection on anything).

i know that everyone has their own opinion on different brands of diapers, but i noticed that no matter what size diaper my daughter had been in...pampers ALWAYS leaked in some way. huggies aren't that bad...but the surprisingly good diaper, are pathmark brand diapers. i don't think i had a single one leak (except the few times when we were out and we just didn't notice that she needed a changing until it was too late, or someone else watched her, and waited until it something leaked through to change...stupid MIL). the ONLY problem that i see with the pathmark diapers is that they seem to run 1/2 sizes. like if she's in a size 2, you would want to get size 3 because it's a little smaller then a 2 in a name brand....more like in the middle of 1 and 2. i'm not quite sure about the smaller sizes, i didn't start using them until she was in a size 3, but i have been through ALL the diapers and noticed that pampers and luvs work the same (not that great on girls) and huggies aren't that bad, pathmark is better then most, ALL store brand diapers run in the smaller sizes, and the kirkland brand (from costco, and possibly bj's) completely suck (you're better off not putting a diaper on them at all.

hope some of this helps.

I had this problem with my breastfed baby. I found that soaking the clothing in Dreft for a few hours, discarding the water/soap mixture and then washing the clothes in Dreft works well. I swear by that detergent. It also is effective in removing baby food stains from clothes when the babe gets older!

Try dreft spray - spray it as soon as you see the stain and soak it in your sink in the bathroom, wherever. Or use Dove bar soap. works wonders and is safe for baby skin! Good luck! D.

First let me say that we switched to cloth diapers and have NEVER had a leak since. All the disposable ones I have ever tried leaked. That may or may not be an option for you (though it sure would solve the "blowout" problems) but the only thing I have been able to use to get those stains out is the SUN! Kinda doesnt help you now, since the sun wont make an appearance for another 6 months or so, but I am also a huge stickler for chemicals (especially on baby's clothes and diapers) so the chemical free, cost effective way to get rid of stains for me was to sun them. Put them out when they are wet and the sun bleaches them clean again. It amazes me, and it works. That probably wont help you now since its winter, but something to keep in mind for the future! Good luck!

And congrats on your new baby and kudos for giving her the best stuff on earth....Momma's milk! Keep up the good work!

I used Biz when my kids were younger - I would rinse the stain with regular dish washing detergent (dawn, joy, etc.) and scrub whatever I could out. Then I would soak it overnight in a tub of really hot water with BIZ. Then I'd throw it in the laundry as usual and it would be all clean. I love BIZ and have used it for a while as I've found it gets out stains that other detergents can't. The key is to soak it in hot water overnight or for a few hours. Good luck!

I never had to use it when my daughter was under 6 months, so I would ask around about how okay use is. But if I cannot get a stain out, I soak it in OxyClean. Works everytime. Maybe since you'll wash it in Dreft afterwards, it would be okay? Good luck!

Dreft makes a stain remover that works wonders. Babies R US carries it. Just follow the directions on the bottle and it really works. I breastfed my twins so we had LOTS of mustardy stains to fight!!

My daughter was the queen of diaper blow outs, we brought 3 outfits anytime we left the house! We always used the Pampers Swaddlers, we found that they contained the messes the best, even over the Pamper Baby Dry. Now, the stains, we always soaked the stains (right away if possible) with Shout, if the poop was already dried on we would just LIBERALLY spray it, and once the Shout was soaked in then washed. We always washed her clothing with only her clothing and used Dreft. I never had a stain that wouldn't come out.. Maybe we were lucky, maybe it's what we were using. GOOD LUCK, I feel your pain! :D

I suggest Spray and Wash Stain Stick. Not the spray, but its an actual stick. They sell it in the laundry aisle. It usually runs about 3 bucks. Great product. You can treat now, and wash up to a week later. It doesn't irritate the skin, and has saved a lot of clothes for me. You must use it before you soak or treat the clothes. Otherwise it doesn't work. Good Luck. Congrats on your baby. D.

I also used cloth diapers and never had a problem with blow outs. There are lots of free patterns for sewing your own cloth diapers and diaper covers on the internet, which would ultimately save money over Pampers, too. To keep the diapers from staining, we would squirt a product called BacOut, made by Biokleen, on the diaper before putting it in the hamper. It has bacteria in it to eat the stain right out! But the benefit of making your own diapers would be using darker fabric so stains would not even be an issue.

If you are interested in looking at a company that has safer more cost effective products that work better than grocery store brands let me know!

Their spot remover was the only thing that worked on those types of stains for me.

Hi T., congrats on your new baby! My suggestion for tough baby stains is to get a box of the powdered dreft laundry detergent. Rinse off the poo as best you can, then work some of the dreft powder onto the wet fabric to form a paste, let it sit overnight and then wash as normal. Good luck!

I also use Dreft and have never had a problem getting out those mustard stains. If it's a bad leak I just wash it in sink or tub with some dish soap or baby wash. Then the rest of stain comes out with the the regular laundry using Dreft.

Hey T.,

When my oldest was a baby, I used Era Max, but it is hard to find now. So, when my youngest was born I switched over to using Spray-n-Wash with Resolve (my sister swore by it) and sure enough it works for me. I use both the the spray and the stick!! The stain stick is one that if you don't have time to wash right away, you can rub it on and wash later. The spray, however, is one that you can leave on for 1-5 mins, but should not let dry on fabric. The spray is guaranteed to get stains out the first time, so if it doesn't work I'm sure you could your money back atleast!! I guess all you can do is try until you find what works for you!! Goodluck!!
