Baby Is Sick - Las Vegas,NV
My daughter is almost 4 months old and she has diarrhea. I know that there is not much that I can do for her but does anyone have any suggestions. I bf so I am trying to feed her a little more often to keep her hydrated. She is not crying all of the time or anything just wondering what I should do. I am changing 2-3 messy diapers an hour sometimes more. She is getting a horrible diaper rash so I am hoping to remedy this quickly. Thanks.
So What Happened?™
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. She is doing better now I think she is over whatever she had and now her rash is all clear thanks to your suggestions. Thank you again.

you need to take her to the doctor if you have not already,it is possible she is just a yucky stomache, but there is also something out there called the rotavirus not sure if I am spelling that right but it can cause diarrhea and vomiting my son had it when he was young and he could not keep anything in him. it lasted for about a week I believe. ask about giving baby pedialyte it puts electrolytes etc back into their body to help with dehydration not sure if baby is to young though or not. hope she gets better soon. hey and also if you can let the baby be free(might be hard with all the diarrhea going on)but if somehow she can air dry a little letting her behind be free along with the help of a good diaper rash medicine or vasoline it will give rash some time to breathe and out of the warmth.

I would take her to the Dr. or at least call the nurse's exchange for advice.
Also, a bad diaper rash can be a result of excess yeast in her messy diapers. When my daughter had intestinal flu and constant diarrhea, her Dr. told me to buy either Lotrimin or Gynelotrimin and put it on w/her rash cream. (She prefers Aquaphor). My little one had a big, painful rash and it cleared up super fast w/ the Lotrimin. There is no way I was going to put her through unnecessary pain. All the other thicker cremes weren't making anything better.
I hope she feels better soon!

I agree with the suggestion of the Triple Paste, so worth its money. I have also had great luck with A&D ointment. It is clear, spreads on a little easier, you want to just slather up her little bottom. Also, if you can let her "air out" on a towel (or few) to let her sore little bum breathe, that could be helpful. Good luck to you! Keep nursing, that will keep her hydrated! Be sure to consult your dr/nurse just to keep them updated, if it lasts more than 1-2 days in an infant, they may want to see her. :)

The rash is probably going to bother her more than the tummy ache...they can be quite awful! What we did when our baby had "the runs" was to gently wash (cool water) and dry his poor red bottom :( make sure it was dry (air dry for a few min if possible) then apply a thin coat of Vaseline over the entire bottom and perineal area (sp?) making sure to get inside the butt checks and around the anus. We used our hands to do this (wearing gloves) as it was gentler and more effective than trying to use any sort of wipe.
Within a day or so, it should be looking less red.
Sounds like you are doing everything you can - nursing her regularly as much as she'll let you. I'd call her doc if it goes on for more than 36 hours or if she shows ANY signs of dehydration (lethargy, sunken eyes, loss of elasticity in skin...you can Google more symptoms but these are just the ones that are coming to mind). Good luck and keep washing your hands and disinfecting as much as you can!

The most important thing is to make sure she is getting enough fluids and keep her hydrated. As far as the diaper rash, my son used to get them constantly when he was on antiniotics, and desitin, butt paste, not even lotrimin worked. Then a nurse I spoke with at the advise line at my son's doctors office recommended Triple Paste, which can be bought at most pharmacys, it is a little pricy, but worth every penny. It is the only cream that helped my babie when his rash got bad. Good luck and I wish your baby a speedy recovery.

hmm did you eat any plums or anything like that? I know when I did while breastfeeding that happened to my little guy.
I'd say maybe call your doctor and see if Pedialyte is ok

try putting breastmilk on her rash.
It is supposed to help.
Have you told the Doctor?

Just breatfeed her more often. I don't think she needs anything other than that at this time. I exclusively bf'd my 2 children. Make sure she still has enough wet diapers. Call the ped. to inform her of the fever & ask what temp. is too high & requires med. attention. Other than that, nurse her & love her & keep her away from others or germy things so she doesn't get worse. Good luck!
