Baby Is Not Sleeping, and White Noise Question

I have an eight month old little boy that has been a horrible sleeper lately. I am about to go crazy! My daughter was and still is a wonderful sleeper. My son takes 2 naps, and will wake up after a half hour tired and cranky, but will not go back to sleep. He has also been waking up way too early in the morning. I know he is sleep deprived. I just started reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, and I really hope this will help me. I could use all the suggestions I can get, though. He sleeps in his own crib, in his own room. His naps are at 9 am and 1 pm, and he goes to bed about 7:30 pm. He usually wakes up once or twice and cries for a few minutes during the night, but then will fall back asleep on his own. I am worried that he is a light sleeper, and wakes up to my husband opening the garage to leave to work early in the morning, and to my daughter playing during his morning nap. Is white noise the way to solve this? And do I buy a machine, or a CD? What is the best one to buy? And if you use it, do they become dependent on it to go to sleep? I don't want to form a bad habit. Thank you!

What can I do next?

I don't know what his eating habits are, but maybe he needs to be eating more?? I know that new sleeping habits like this are an indicator that they may need to move to the next step in eating.

I have the Prince Lionheart Slumber Bear and my daughter LOVES IT!! It makes the sound of a heartbeat from inside the womb. It's wonderful and even though mine's younger, I notice huge difference when she sleeps with it. I recommend it to all of my friends now!

Best of luck! :)

I've always had my kids sleep with a box fan. I also can't sleep without one. I wake up to the drop of a pen so it's the only thing that drounds out the noise and does not have an irritating sound to me. I also have a VERY light sleeper (14 mnths) and the box fan always helps him sleep longer. I wouldn't worry if it causes dependency issues right now, the most important thing is having him sleep longer for his health and your sanity. : )
I've used one since I was a child and I may be dependent on it to sleep but it's never been a real big issue for me. They sell them at walmarts, dollar stores, targets, lowes, etc. so you'll always find one handy (except during the winter time when they don't sell fans).

Good luck and hope you find something that helps.....Oh, BTW, the cost of a box fan has gone up these days. You used to be able to buy one for $10, now I haven't seen one cheaper than $19! It's still worth it though........take care!

My son sleeps with a noise machine. I actually enjoy it also, as the sound comes through the monitor which sits on my nightstand. It is an alarm clock with a radio and about 10 different sounds like ocean waves, heartbeat, waterfall, etc. I love having it. It helps me relax about trying to be so darn quiet while my son is asleep. My son has no problem sleeping without it either. If you want to know the brand and such, PM me and I can get back to you (my son is asleep right now so I can't go check for you).

Good luck!!!

I second the box fan tip. I have to sleep with them too. $10ish at Home Depot - you can just turn it the other way.
