My 13 month old gets the chills several times a day. She shakes a little as we would if we had a chill. Shes been doing it for months, I was hoping it would pass. She seems perfectly healthy and happy but its starting to concern me a little. I was wondering if anyone elses baby has been doing this and what ped said about it.

Dumb question, but is she peeing at that time? I only ask because my sister had the same thing with her oldest. She would shiver, as we would if we were cold. We realized that was when she was peeing in her diaper. Not sure if she didn't like the wet feeling, or felt it was cold or what?

If it's just a little shake for a second or two, I also think it's the 'pee shivers'! :) If it's longer/more intense than that, I'd check with your pediatrician. However, their nervouc systems take a while to mature, so it can be a totally normal thing, too.

My baby does the same thing and has for a while. I did ask our pediatrician and he asked the same questions about seizures. She doesn't have any of those, just shivers. He said not to worry. I'm glad you posted and someone else is having the same thing....

I read some posts here and I was not aware of the peeing and chills connection and if that is the case, then I learned something new today. I would ask the pediatrician just to be on the safe side. I know that there are seizures and mild ones that even I had them. I'd shake like I am freezing and my teeth chatters and my mom used to put me in a bathtub with warm water because I was conscious to know I was having them and if I get them as an adult then I would give myself a warm shower and then I would calm down. There's nothing else happening so I wouldn't just expect something else to happen with it too.
Just to be sure, check with the ped.
Congratulations!

Hi A.,
I don't wish to alarm you but are you sure that your baby is having a chill, or is she having a seizure? Is there any change in facial expression or loss of body control when she does this? If this happens multiple times a day and it's been happening for months, I would have made an appointment to speak with the doctor about it by now, if you have not. While I surely am not a doctor, can't diagnose something and it may be (hopefully) nothing serious at all, any health concerns should always be directed to your baby's doctor. Good luck and I hope its nothing to worry about at all!

My daughter seemed to shiver a lot too. It seems she does when she urinates.

It is not the chills. I've heard of it, 1 of my friends kids have it. You should mention it to your pediatrican, not that they really know what that is, so i would make a neurology apt. They call it "stemming" From what I understand it is not life threatening, but should be looked into. My friends daughter is now 4 and still does it, she went for Occupational Therapy and it still happens, but less. good luck!

My daughter used to shiver a little when she urinated. I asked the pediatrician and he said many kids shiver when they go to the bathroom. Not to worry its normal but do ask the pediatrician.

My little one used to do that. She was the type of
girl who just needed to be toasty, even when it was warm
out. In the wintertime it was turtlenecks and layers!

Both my babies did (do) that...when they pee. LOL Check her diaper - that might be it.
