Anyone know of an organization in Atlanta that accepts donations of baby items? I have several duplicates or things that are the wrong size that I'd like to donate to someone that needs them.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of the great advice! I donated to Genesis this time since I was in the neighborhood visiting a friend.

I second the idea of the Genesis Transistional Housing program for homeless mothers of newborns and infants (located on Peachtree St. not far from the Amtrak station). I worked in homeless social services, and this would be a good program to donate to. Second, I would contact the Atlanta Women and Children's Shelter in the downtown Atlanta area (near Georgia Tech). This is a central place where most women that are in the local shelters come to in the daytime since they can't stay in the shelters during the day. But the women from Genesis probably wouldn't go there since Genesis isn't a shelter but a more long-term transitional program. Hope this helps.

Melissa,
There is an organization called Foster Care. com (it may be . org) not sure. but they would LOVE to have your new, gently used baby equipment and things.

This group helps foster parents ALL over Georgia and is the only one of its kind.

They rely only upon donations. The church I consign with donates ALL the clothing that is left over to them.

Hope this helps,

B.

There are some women's shelters that can always use items for the mothers that are trying to leave abusive homes. I think the one in Atl is called "My Sister's House." Also, you can call your local hospital. They sometimes have programs (or work with programs) to help new mothers that do not have the means to buy the items they will need.

Cherokee Womens violence center in Canton and the HOPE center for new mothers in Woodstock. Both are smaller organizations and close by.

I hope this helps!

MUST ministries is a good one! You can also give to one of the local churches- usually if you talk with the pastor or preacher, they will know someone personally who could use the gift. good luck.

First Baptist Church in Woodstock takes donations and has a "store" where they sell things very cheap to families that need help.

When leaving your estate, donating Real Estate, property, land, vehicles,Rvs,Boats to charity ask that charity what percent of your donation will actually go toward helping those in need, you may be surprised. On average less than 20% of every donation to large charities & an average of 10% of donations to the with causes charities actually goes to helping those in need, the rest goes to pay salaries, overhead, admisnitrative costs, rent for fancy storefronts etc..
5 years ago we wanted to start a REAL charity that gives 100% of every donation goes directly to helping those in need,we help 1000s of families & people every year & 1000s of children every Christmas with 0 funding like those big charities receive,we are all volunteers & are a home based Charity/Church, we do all of our own website, promotional worl, advertising etc on free sites so that not a cent of donations ever goes to costs. Our belief is that when someone makes a donation to a charity they expect & want that donation to go directly toward helping those in true need.we will even disclose to the donor, upon request, exactly who, where & how their donation went & helped We accept donated furniture in good condition, any baby & childrens items, toys, working appliances, household needs, pet needs, anything in good usable condition,we also pickup truckloads, even leftover moving or yardsales, estates, etc

I agree with MUST Ministries. However, in-town, All Saints Episcopal Church (www.allsaintsatlanta.org) runs a ministry called Threads, which provides new clothing to children in need. I'd call Lori at Threads and see if she can accept what you have to offer. The website has further information.

The Genesis Shelter is located downtown. They offer housing to homeless families with newborns/infants. I am sure that they would love clothing and/or any extra gear that you have. It is a little hard to find them, but I think if you google "Genesis Shelter Atlanta" you should find their contact info.

North Fulton Community Charities is off Alpharetta Hwy. in Roswell and is a great place to donate. They even have a drive up spot on the side of the building, and tax receipts available right there.
