Baby Face Rash Solution...

My 5 month old daughter has developed a rash around her mouth. It has been there since we lightly started her on solids a month ago. It doesn't seem to bother her but I want it to go away! I am sure it is just from her drool (she's teething) and food when it gets on her skin. DOes anyone have any safe ideas of what I can put on it to help it go away???

Thanks!!!
Emily

What can I do next?

Well if it is drool from teething I have given my baby teeting tablets (they are usually in the infant dept), they are great for the pain, drool, and everything else that comes with teething. Also, for the rash on the face you can get a product called grins and giggles that is for the face. It is like a huge tube of chapstick and it is non-toxic. They can even lick it and eat it, it will not harm them.

Hi,

I've had great results with Aquaphor. It's basically super vaseline. You can get it at Walmart in the soap and baby aisle and in grocery stores (even Walgreens). We all use it for extra dry patches of skin and for scratches or ouchies. I put it on at night, and by the next day it is considerably improved or gone all together. My son frequently gets a dry scaly ring around his mouth that is there due to dry skin and from his habit of licking his lips instead of using chapstick. When I remember to use Aquaphor, it works wonders. I do think you should try to determine if a food allergy is causing this, but in the meantime this stuff will provide relief.

Hi Emily...I use Renew...not only does it work great - but it's safe...no toxins/chemicals or harsh ingredients. In fact all of my products (cleaning, personal, pharmaceutical, vitamins, etc.) are the best of science and nature and work great!! So my family (kids, pet and us) is safer and healthier!!

I have a 7 week old boy, and he got a rash on his face (still not sure from what) baut the Dr. told me to put corn starch on his face because it wont choke him like baby powder.

Vasiline works great.Your right it is probably from her drooling it happens with my son to.

My daughter developed a rash around the same time as solid foods. We found out it was because of the acid in the foods she was eating. Tomatoes were the worst. Given that it was around the mouth we couldn't use a diaper ointment, so we used vasaline to protect the skin from the acid. Only a small amount was needed twice a day in order to reduce the rash. I hope this helps.

I would try vitamin E oil mixed with a Vasoline lip balm. My 3 year old has a bad habit of chewing on her lip, which creates a red line under her month. It helps with alot with that.

Try eleminating just one of the babyfood items at a time to see if she may be a little alergic. I know she isn't eating tomatoes or strawberries yet, but since I had a neice that when she first started on those two foods broke out aroundd the mouth, I just thought there could be a slight possibility it is a food, but of course as you said may just bee a lot of drool it is just more like chapped skin.
