Baby Bubble Baths

I was wondering when we can start giving the kids bubble baths. One of them has skin that is prone to drying out so we haven't started yet. They are 21 months and I am really excited to have some fun with bubbles and think they would too. I just don't want to dry their skin out if anyone can recommend a good bubble bath or age to start, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Baby girls are prone to get infections with bubble baths so when my girls were little I stopped after this happened and took them to their doctor.

Hi Finoa,
I started to bath my son in CALIFIRNIA BABY – BUBBLE BATH at 9 months. It’s No Tears, Non-Toxic and Organic. It is all natural and does not have any Parabens, sodium benzoats, benzoic acid, Benzyl Alcohol or Phenoxyethanol. They use essential oils it contains NO SOAP.

It even has a little bubble wand for you to blow bubbles to your babies while they bath – my son loves it. I get it at Whole Foods. Here’s is a link: http://www.californiababy.com/bubble-bath-tote.html

Good Luck,

Hi F.
try california baby products.. they don't have harsh chemicals and or dyes. In addition, no sodium laurel sulfate, which is the ingredient that makes the bubbles in other soaps and is ALSO very very drying... Oh and limit the time you let them soak, especially if you don't have a chlorine filter on your bathtub faucet (warm chlorinated) water is very drying as well.
Lastly, stay away from products that stay fragrance free, often they use a chemical to make it smell like nothing. but in fact there are chemicals...
you can go online and read up about California baby .. the woman who started the company had the same dilemma , her child's skin was sensitive and dry... I have used the products quite often.
best of luck

Hi F.,

Unfortunately bubble baths are not a good idea for children of any age for the reason you mentioned- bubble baths tend to be overly drying for their skin, but also because bubble baths have been associated with an increase in urinary tract infections in children.

Try blowing bubbles for them while they are bathing, or filling dishpans with bubbly water for them to play with inside or out, instead. L.

It is better not give bubble baths all the time to girls. Frequent bubble baths can cause frequent urinary infections in girls.

F.,
Just be careful, the bubble baths can give girls a yeast infection that burns. I was not ever able to find one that did not cause this problem with my girls.

Hi F., Check out Trukid at trukid.com--these are natural and organic products made by a local mom who didn't want to expose her babies/kids to toxic chemicals that are oftentimes in some of the major brands out there. I'm sure at 21 months these babies are ready for a little bubbly bath. Just put a nice lotion on afterward!

Hi F.,

An occasional bubble bath is fine, especially when your girls hit the 'I don't like baths" phase. Just make sure that your rinse them off really good afterwards and use lots of lotion (grease them up like little piggys). Both my twin girls who are now 3 yrs and have excema take their bath together in our very large tub. My husband and I never leave them alone in the tub and normally my husband puts on his swim trunks and gets in the tub too. Then, he takes he one separately into the shower to rinse them off. I then dry, lotion and dress the girl. We use Eucerin lotion based on our dermatologist recommendation and have not had any skin problems.

Baby girls are prone to get infections with bubble baths so when my girls were little I stopped after this happened and took them to their doctor.
