Baby Bjorn Carrier Vs. Ergo Baby Carrier

Looking to get a carrier for our new baby. I've read up on both the Baby Bjorn and the Ergo and they both seem nice. Just can't decide which one to get...Which one is more comfortable and easy to use?

What can I do next?

I had/have both plus a sling. I'm 5'8" and 120lbs (slight) and the baby bjorn just didn't fit me right. I couldn't get it tight enough. Worked great for my husban though. We got the Ergo later my son was at least a year old by then. Fit me and my husband well. I liked that I could do a front, side, or back carry. My son is nearly 4 (and about 40 lbs) and we still use the Ergo when we go on trips. Longer useful lifespan than the Baby Bjorn. I gave up the BB at about 5-6 months of age and started using my sling since I could hip carry my son. Then late switched to the Ergo - could have use it earlier though.

i dont know enough about either to make any judgements about them.

i DO know that the sleepy wrap and the moby wrap (which you can now find at target!!) are VERY comfortable!!!

good luck! and congrats for using slings! :) they are awesome!

My first recommendation would be the Maya ring sling for your newborn. My son is 5 months old and I still use it. Until he was 4 months old I would put him in "froggy" style facing me, so his legs were tucked up (like a frog or kangaroo). This is the most natural way for them to be positioned. Now that he is going on 5 months I still use the sling, but it just goes under his butt and back so his legs are out. My husband said the ring sling was too girly, so we got the Ergo for him. The Ergo is wonderful especially when they get older, but I personally prefer the Maya ring sling while they are young. I also had a Moby which I thought was okay around the house, but I hated putting it on if we were out in public because the tails dragged on the ground as I was tying it. I could put my son in his ring sling so quick, that I never kept him in his car seat when I went shopping. He would sleep against my chest as I was shopping and gave me more space in the cart since I didn't have his car seat in there.
Stay away from the Baby Bjorn. Not only is it really bad for your baby's hips, but when they face forward they can get over stimulated at a young age. Good for you for looking into babywearing. There are so many wonderful benefits.

The Ergo can be uses for longer, because it supports more weight. I feel more comfortable wearing the Ergo, personally!

Well, it seems like most of the people who have responded so far have said Ergo. I agree. I love the Ergo. I have back problems and it never hurts me to carry her, and I've carried her for long stretches at a time.
I used the Moby wrap until she was about 8 months old. However, my husband was the one to buy the Ergo carrier because he thought the Moby wrap was too girly for him to use. He started using the Ergo on her at three months (maybe a few times before).
My daughter is 13 months now. I've carried her on my back a few times. And have just started using the hip position. I find all positions to be very comfortable.
I really recommend a Moby wrap for atleast 0-3 months. Your new baby will love the snuggly aspect of that carrier. I carried my daughter practically all day in the Moby. She always napped on me. I actually never put her down for a nap on her own until she was 6 months old. She is a fantastic sleeper; at 6 months she started sleep through the night. I believe that babywearing will make you baby feel extra confident and secure. And if you wear them a lot we the are little they will be used to it. I went to the zoo with a friend when my daughter was 9 months old. I didn't have a stroller so I carried her for 5 hours. (In the Ergo; no discomfort at all). My friend was shocked that my daughter didn't fuss at all. She said her son would never let her carry him that long.
I've never used a Baby Bjorn so my opinoin is just based on what I have observed. I don't like the way the baby dangles in the Bjorn. The Ergo supports them in a way that they are really sitting. In the Ergo your baby always faces you, not out like the Bjorn. I like that. The baby can still look around.
You asked about ease of use. The Ergo is very easy to adjust straps. And if we are out and about it is very easy for both my husband and me to use the Ergo. It is easy to adjust to fit your body.
I recommend the Ergo carrier!

The Ergo will last you a lot longer. You can carry a much bigger child in it and it's a lot more comfortable. it can be worn on the front, back, or hip. I know many people who put three year olds in it.

I have both. I registered for the Bjorn and got the Ergo from a friend. Personally, I think the Bjorn feels more secure for an infant, but the Ergo seems better as the baby gets older. I think over 20 lbs would be tough to carry on the front.

I used the Moby Wrap until my son was about 3 months old, then switched him over to the Ergo which I love! He's 21#, and I still carry him on my front, although the Ergo is nice because they can ride on your back too. My friend has a 1 year old who rides on her back in the Ergo quite a bit.

I used the Bjorn with my first son, and would get back aches within 1/2 hour, and he was just a peanut. I've carried son #2 in the Ergo for up to a couple hours, and have not had a problem with back pain. The Ergo is also very easy to adjust. So if you're looking for something that you'll be able to use as the baby gets heavier, I would recommend the Ergo.

I tried a few different carriers with my son, He was colicky and always wanted to be held. We loved the Ergo! I thought it was the most comfortable, and it was the only one that my son seemed to like. It's true you can use it much longer as well and the back carry position is great.
