I did this with all 4 of my boys and it helped tremendously. I took a baby washcloth, put baby soap on it, then rinsed the washcloth so there was not very much soap left on it, then washed their faces in a circular motion. I did this 2-3 times a day. My babies had the best skin. I know this goes against traditional advice, but I couldn't help to think of all the kisses my babies got from everyone that held them leaving oil etc, on their little skin. So instead of saying "don't kiss the baby's face" I washed it instead. Went away very fast.

The best possible advice for you is to DO NOTHING. Do not pick at your baby's little white bumps. Baby acne is very common among infants. I know (from personal experience) that you are supposed to do nothing and resist the temptation to pick at it, and it WILL go away, I promise!

Really, the best thing is just to leave it alone. Just gently wash his/her face. I'm not a big fan of exposing babies to any kind of med (over the counter or prescribed) unless absolutely necessary but that's just me. Congratulations on your new little one!

My son had a horrible face case of it when he was exactly that age, too. My daughter, I don't recall her ever experiencing it. It went away on it's own. I didn't really do much of anything. I would just be careful to use gentle baby washes (like Phisoderm for babies) and don't let it get too dry. I have read before that it is just the female hormones (from you during pregnancy) working themselves out of his system. I don't know it it is true, but it made sense to me.

Hi T.,

When My son was a baby, he's now 7years old I bought a brand new pair of white baby socks put some raw oat meal in a sock tie it and use purified water, bath her/him with it don't use anything else just the oat meal and the purified water (oat meal sock can be used for 3-4 days then refresh) followed by pure corn starch baby powder, desitine hope I spell that right for sever diaper rash. This process did wonders when my son had skin irritations.

I have a 13 month old and when she was 3 weeks, she also had bad baby acne. I didn't do anything special and it just went away on its own. I have heard it is just from hormones...hope this helps, take care~

I had great luck with Arbonne baby products. They are all natural, organic, botanical products that are gentle on baby's skin and don't have all the additives that a lot of other products have. I liked it so much, I'm now a consultant. To see the products, go on my website...

Good luck!

As the other moms said, leave it alone. It is normal and should clear up in a few weeks.

My child had acne at 4-6 weeks
Looks horrible
You used to seeing this incredibly smooth unblemished skin
It goes away - for me 2-3 weeks
I was teased a great deal by my friends because I work from home with a health & wellness known for our superior skin care
It will pass

Acne is from mama's hormones. Do not pop the pimples or it could leave scarring. We just used a warm wash cloth often and especially after nursing. It cleared up in no time. Just as a note both of my kids were about 4 weeks when it started.

Use only Cetaphil cleanser and lotion/cream and make sure you are using only baby detergent or detergent with no perfumes, do not use fabric softener, and you do not wear any perfume and watch the detergent you use on EVERYTHING that touches the baby

Oh T. I have been down this road! My son had a horrible case of it. My pediatrician told me I could use hydrocortisone crème, but to buy the store brand. He told me only to use it like 3-4 days before pictures or something that I was stressing about his skin looking good for. But NOT to make a habit out of it because they can build up a tolerance to it and then it won’t work anymore. I would put a light layer on his cheeks before bed at night. My in-laws gave me a horrible time about how bad his skin looked and I was all worried every time they were going to come over. But like you I had to get threw all of these upcoming holidays, and I wanted him to look cute, not pimply and red. His really calmed down when he was about 6 months old. Although still to this day every once and a while he’ll get a little red mark here and there and I will put a dab on it the night before pictures and the next day its all gone. I hope this helps.

T.,

As a mom to 3 boys who went through it, the best thing to do is to just leave it alone. I will eventually clear up on it's own. Just wash the babies face as you normally would with the baby wash lightly.

Good luck.

T.,
Are you breastfeeding? If so, I know this may sound strange, but squirt some breast milk onto your baby's face & rub it (gently) onto his/her acne. I did this with my son & it cleared up VERY quickly.
If you arent breastfeeding, I think it's something that you should talk to your pediatrician about.

Hylands, Homeopathic Diaper Cream works. If you are nursing, it may be from your Hormones. If you take Zinc supplements it will balance your hormones and what your baby receives. It eventually will go away even if you do nothing.

That's very normal for a four week old. I think it's because they are processing out mama's hormones from the birth. Give him/her a couple weeks and it will be gone.

Hi T.,

Victoria is right that it is directly related to your hormones during delivery. It will eventually take care of itself but make sure you care for it so it's not uncomfortable for your little one.

Take care!
