Azo Tablets for Recurring Yeast Infections
Has anyone used Azo tablets? I get a few yeast infections every year and happened to see these pills at Target. Does anyone know if they work or if they have any side effects? Thankss!
So What Happened?™
Thank you everyone for your help! Just to clarify, the Azo tablets that I have are specifically for yeast infections, although I now realize that they make another kind for UTI's too. I don't currently have a yeast infection, but I do get lots of them. I haven't had any problems with Azo yet, but I did pick up some Acidophilus today too to try, as many of you suggested. I am not a huge yogurt fan, but I'm also going to try to eat some regularly, as well. Thank you so much for all of your advice.

Yes, I take one daily. I used to get a lot of yeast infections, and this seems to prevent them very well. I also wear only 100% cotton underwear and wash all of my laundry with detergent free of fragrance and dyes. As far as I know, you don't have to worry about side effects with homeopathic medicines.

I have never heard of them, but you can ThreeLac (works well) but is expensive. Or GSE (Vitacost has it) it is Grapfruit Seed Extract and taken a couple times a day it is really good at preventing yeast and for a number of other uses as well.

Hi J.,
I've never heard of using Azo for yeast infections. I have used it for urinary tract infections to deal with the discomfort while waiting for antibiotics to work (and it's are wonderful for that). For yeast infections, I always use Monistat. You might want to ask your dr or the pharmacist if it can be used for yeast infections.
All my best!

I too have struggled with yeast infections. After I had my first child I stopped having them. Unfortunately after I had my second child they returned! My infections also did not respond to the over the counter treatments (burned like I was on fire!) and it seemed that they would recurr. You need to work with your doctor. The best treatment for me was finally to take diflucan every day for a week and then once a week for three weeks. As a side note ask your doctor to prescribe the diflucan in 100mg pills.....the "typical" prescription is for 150 mg pills to treat yeast infections....the problem is that the insurance companies require you to jump through a bunch of hoops to get your prescription filled if it's written for 150 mg tablets. If they write the prescription for 1 1/2 tablets of 100 mg pills then it will go through a lot easier. Hope this helps....

Hi J.,
Christine B. is right about the Stoney Field Farms yougurt. They have Yo Mommy for women and Yo Baby for...well...babies. The natural cultures in the yogurt helps regulate the yeast in your body. Yeast infection is caused when a lack of bacteria in your body creates an over abundance of yeast. Thats why alot of women get yeast infections when they are on anti-biotics. The organic yogurt has natural pro-biotics that help regulate that.
As to the AZO, I have only heard it used for UTI not yeast. Try the yogurt and lower your carb intake which actually creates yeast.
Hope this is helpful.

I have never seen those, but I use Culterelle and they can be found at any drug store. My osteopath recommended them.

They work just like the tablets that you get at the doctors office that turns your pee orange! They do the trick and relieve the discomfort.

I have not used the Azo for yeast infections, but yogurt works great for me. I get a yeast infection every time i am on an antibiotic, and have tried eating yogurt all the time now and it has seemed to help keep them at bay. I used to not be able to eat yogurt because I thought it tasted nasty but I have found the whipped yogurt. Love it. I don't know if that helped or not but that was just my experience.

I don't know about Azo, but you can try eating yogurt every day, it can really make a difference.
