Avent Baby Bottles Leaking

I have been using Avent bottles since my now 9 month old girl was 1 month old. I have had trouble with them leaking around the white rim where it screws onto the bottle. I take care in screwing it on evenly but still sometimes it will drip out so fast that it soaks my baby's clothes before I even realize it, which of course ruins a special time of feeding her when I have to change her and such. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if I am doing something wrong somehow. It does not happen every time but it is a nuisance when it does.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for everyones response!! I have tried several of your suggestions together (not screw too tight, set lid down turn clockwise til it drops then screw on, make sure ring is dry and put lids on before screwing on) It has helped tremendously and though I am not sure which one in particular is making it better I will just keep doing them all. I am so glad not to have them leaking anymore! Thanks Again!

Yes I have the same problem...Although I have noticed that if it is leaking I will pull the nipple up to make a tighter fit with the white lid and this seems to help.

J. I also used the Avent bottles and they will leak if you screw them on too snug. Sounds crazy I know, but just try twisting it on until it grips and not bearing down on it any. Maybe this will help.

i had this same problem and realized that i was actually screwing the nipple part on too tight. you need to just screw it on less tight, and the leaking stopped right away for me. just take some time to wiggle them and get the feel for how tight to put them on.

you might need to replace the nipple. if the rubber is starting to deteriorate(sp) then it won't keep a tight seal.

I have been using Avent bottles for 10 months now. I have learned the secret to not leaking too! When you place the ring/nipple on the top of the bottle, turn it COUNTER-CLOCKWISE until it "sits", then screw on! no more leaking!

I agree, replace the nipples... but first make sure you're pulling the nipple secure into the cap when you fit it in there... that was my problem at times :)

hope this helps!!

we used Avent and eventually just changed right over to VentAir with out one problem.

you are suppose to screw the tops on with the lid. if you don't it will leak. also if the nipples are older than 2 months they can leak AVENT suggests that you replace the nipples every 2 to 3 months. hope this helps

You don't need to replace the nipples unless there are any obvious signs of damage....simple loosen the ring. You have to tighten them only a little bit.....there is an air system thing that allows air into the bottle so the nipple doesn't collapse and when you tighten them too tight they leak.

I hate Avent bottles!!!! I have the same problem with them leaking. I called Avent and tried their suggestions to make them stop leaking and non of them worked. It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to screw on a nipple. I ended up buying a different brand of bottles and have not had a problem since.

I'm sure everyone told you this already, but yeah, Avent bottles tend to leak. The amount you're describing seems excessive though. You do just have to make sure they are screwed on right. I used them with both of my kids, so I guess I didn't think it was that big of a deal.

I used Avent bottles, and noticed the same thing happening from time to time. If you sterilize/wash them, don't put the nipple in the rim if either are wet. Shake or wipe it dry a little, then assemble. Water droplets on the rim where the screw rings are will cause it to leak. Fixed it for me every time.

I had the same problem with them. I replaced the nipples. Some continued to leak so I got rid of them.

i love these bottles, but the tighter you make it, the more they leak. Just don't tighten the cap so tight.
