Hi S., I'm an insurance agent in AZ. Agents don't "pick your price". We quote you thru the insurance company, they decide the premium, we have no say. If you go to a captive agent (like State Farm, Farmers, Allstate, etc) they can ONLY quote their company. If you go thru an independent agent like myself, we have contracts with many companies (AAA, Hartford, Progressive, Travelers, MetLife, etc) so we quote the same coverages and get the premiums for all those companies. Then we can let you know who is the lowest. Insurance is cyclical, meaning sometimes rates are high, sometimes low, depending on how much the company has paid out in claims. So if you are "shopping" for insurance, you will likely find a company that has "low" rates, because they have made money so they can get more people insured at a better rate. So google "independent insurance agent in Des Plaines, IL" and find one local and they can do this for you. I hope it makes sense and helps you. Message me if you have questions. Good luck!!!

You cant negotiate and and we dont price match.

But we can look for all possible discounts and you can pick and choose coverages to get the premium where you want it. Sometimes we can switch drivers around to lower the premium. It helps to have a knowledgeable crafty bunch at your agents office!

If there are no more discounts available, and you need all the coverages you have, shop around. The criteria is differant from company to company for who gets the best rates.

Oh I negotiated mine down big time. I had bought a 2 door red Honda Accord when I was 20, just before I had my first kid...stupid on my part anyways. They wanted to charge me over $200 per month just for me!! EEK!! I have been with USAA since birth, so have my parents and my grandparents - so a long time. I told them I was leaving them and they got it to about $90 a month...much better!

I don't think they price match, but most will match coverage. I would take your current policy to the company you are interested in or an insurance broker and see what they can do. Personally, I noticed with GEICO and Progressive (I'm sure it's all of them, but this is personal experience), they claim to save money, but most often it's because they lower your coverage. Also, companies that ofter other types of insurance, like State Farm, Nationwide or Allstate, will ofer discounts if you combine insurances, like home, auto and life.

I don't think you can negotiate. There are many factors at play such as... discounts if you have other insurance with the same company, discount if you have taken defensive driving, we got a discount for daughter's good grades, your driving record, your car's listing as business or personal, etc

We max out the deductible because we would not file a claim on our insurance unless we absolutely had to.

Keep in mind your agent as well.. I prefer knowing my agent and knowing if I needed him, he would be there vs some fly by night great dealas seen on tv with no live agents. Just a thought

Good luck

Not really a lot of negotiating you can do. It's based on a lot of different factors and each company uses different factors. (I'm in insurance).

Mostly do research on rates, area you live in...what is you driving record? What company are other drivers in your area using?

You need to call around to see what fits you best for your needs for car insurance. As if they offer multi-car discounts, do they offer life insurance, the more policys you have with them the more discounts you can get. Call State Farm, American family Farmers and compare. Shop for the best price. Also ask for gap insurance, they don't tell you they have it, you have to ask them, gap insurance is when you have a loan on your vehicle and you have a bad accident and it is totaled , then the insurance pays it off for you. Interview these people they hold a lot in thier hands for you and your family.

Most likely not, BUT it also depends on the agent. I was quoted a higher premium by a different agent within the same insurance. We were looking at changing to an agent closer to home. The home insurance premium was $80 higher (annual) and auto insurance (6 months time) total premiums came out to about $60 higher. That's a $100 difference over 6 months time.
