Autism - Support Groups, Special Needs Program, Pediatrician

Dear Moms,
My brother is looking into transfering from PA to Texas. My sister in law and he are concerned about their son whom has autism and significant cognative delays. They will be staying with us until they get their feet on the ground. We live in the Mansfield area and I am asking for some help with resources on autism and the cognative delays. They are requesting special needs program, community rescources, pediatricians that are experienced in those situations, how to go about getting medical help, and lastly if there is a church that handles special needs children. I know once they get on their feet, they may not stay in the Mansfield area and would look to wherever these programs are best in that area.

He is also looking for a managerial position in retail, so if anyone you know is hiring, please reply privately to me.

Thanking you in advance for answering all my questions since I do not even know where to begin!

What can I do next?

Contact the public school district immediatly (actually get the number for her and have his mom call- they can't really set up much without a gaurdian). They'll get the services he needs lined up and what class he'll be in- plus have his IEP sent from his current schools.

i have an 18 year old brother with severe autism...my mom is an advocate for these sweet children. she is full of resources i will be happy to get her in contact with you if you would like..she is in grand prairie near joe pool lake. send me a personal message if you would like to know more :)

I am pretty sure Fielder Road Baptist church (in Arlington)has a special needs class. My friend, which is a speech therapist, helps with that class sometimes.

M.,
We run a nonprofit that helps families with special kids. Have them go to our web site, www.TXSpecialKids.org, and write us there. We'll be happy to communicate with them about all of these things. I could go on and on, but that would take too much space here. Feel free to write us from the web site!

Blessings,
P.
