Au Pairs??
Hello :) I am a working mother of two little girls ( 3 1/2 and 3 months) and I was interested in finding out about Au Pairs. Does anyone know anything about them, like how they screen them, cost...etc. I was told they were pretty affordable, and it would be so much nicer to just come home after work and see my girls...not have to go to daycare, pick them up, drive home...bla bla bla. Any info would be apprciated.

I myself am a former Aupair. I can tell you right now that it is a wonderful experience, not only for your children but for the au pair too. I came over from South Africa with Au Pair in America. They have a wonderful program and a great support system.

Hi M.,
I live in Crystal Lake and am Area Director for AuPairCare, a leading provider of dependable live-in childcare since 1989. (www.aupaircare.com). We have placed over 25,0000 au pairs from 40 countries with caring American families. The cost averages to about $305 PER WEEK.
If you have the space in your home (private bedroom) and are intrigued by the idea of hosting a young person from another country to provide childcare, this option may be something to explore.
Our standard program is a unique year-long experience combining dedicated childcare and cultural exchange. Au pairs provide up to 45 hours of care per week, not to exceed 10 hours per day. Hours are flexible, so you can work with your au pair to create a schedule to accommodate your family's needs.
A live-in au pair is so much more than a baby sitter. An au pair provides busy parents with a much needed extra set of hands. All of our au pairs are highly qualified, young adults who love children and are eager to experience life in the United States. Whether caring for infants or helping school-age children with homework, your live-in au pair will become a vital member of your family.

hi!~
my two best girlfriends, both have em"~ im not sure of the company.. but could be aupairs.com~they both are international, because of choice.. but..i do know pay is about $165.00 a week.. the expense is some for the company~then room and board.. and they have to have transportation/and a room..vacation time..and i believe they have to participate in certain amount of outside home hours with other au pairs/ and or schooling. (not alot) depends on the girl and co.
Ive often thought, thats the way to go, if i were to go back to work.. its wonderful.. i spend alot of time with both of friends..and families and that extra hand~IF you luck out and get a great gal is suuuper.. theyve had bummers too, but everything can be rearranged..
good luck to youuu

Au Pairs come from another country and live in your home. The rates are more reasonable but then again you have another adult living in your home. Check them out online for more info. Good luck.

We have an au pair from Cultural Care and she is wonderful. She is great with the kids and also helps around the house and is a pleasant person to have around. It is much cheaper than day care for two kids and the hours are much more flexible. I highly recommend it. Working with Cultural Care has been great too.

I've actually been interviewing au pairs for a potential position in our home next year. We are currently working through aupaircare.com and their personal attention has been wonderful. Check out their website and you can find out everything from prices to screening. If you googls "au pair" several services will come up. They are all similar in price since it's a government program and they get a J-1 visa. Good luck!
