Attn: Hair Stylists and fashionistas...bangs or No Bangs on Women

I wore bangs for many, many years. I finally grew them out. Now I am thinking of returning to bangs. As I get older, I wonder if bangs would give me a more youthful appearance or am I just fooling myself. What is the current thinking on bangs?

Just for the record, I have poker straight yet semi thick hair that is not quite shoulder length.

I think bangs make a woman look like she's trying to a tennager. There are many different ways of wearing ones hair that is less juvinile. A light weight bang, VEY thin, would be okay but just a long straight hair with a straight bang cut across the eyebrows is very "I don't care aobut how I look" to me.

i would look at hair style magazines and maybe cut a few wispy strands of hair to soften the hairline but not a full bang. I think bangs makes a face look shorter and wider. Translate that into short and fat.

One of my dear friends had finally grown out her bangs and her whole face had opened up and she looked at least 10 years younger. She missed them too much and cut them again. She instantly aged and her face all but dissappeared.

Bangs are cute! I got the blunt thick, straight across bangs right when they first came back in style a few years ago. I loved them! I didn't maintain them though and they started to grow out and I did the side-swept bangs and those were even more adorable! I say either way --you can't go wrong. Just don't do the early 90's Beverly Hills 90210 Brenda and Kelly bangs where they're really wispy and see-through. Good luck with your new 'do if you choose to get one. :)

I think that blunt cut, straight across type bangs are best for the young! But softer or to the side bangs are ok for all ages. Talk to your stylist.

I really love the look of bangs. I think that nice, thick bangs make every woman look younger. The wispy bangs that you can see through, and that get "curled," or those weird thin side bangs on either side of your face, not so much. But, a nice thick, can't see through them straight across bang or a nice swoop bang is really pretty and flattering.

About a month ago I used a YouTube tutorial to create my own swoop bang (apparently, that is street term for a long sideswept bang, all the young girls have it - and with that comment, I've officially aged myself). I would NOT recommend a YouTube tutorial (again, aging myself, did it when I was twelve, so what's the difference now? I thought). It came out OK, but I was lucky. It looks much better now that it's grown out a bit.

A side-sweeping, angled bang works best; avoid the Betty Page straight across bang :)

side swept bangs that are layered into your hair not the straight across.

I think it depends on your face, the shape, your age, the cut and on.

Get online and go through styles and find what you like. Then envision it on you. Your gut will tell you whether it will work.

It really depends on the shape of your face. Square and heart shaped faces look cute with bangs. Oval, long faces look better with no bangs. Just my opinion.
