Athletic Shoes

Hi. I attend Jazzercize, and lately I have begun running a couple times a week. I really need to get new tennis shoes, as the ones I use now are sketchers and are not made for exercise. Do any of you have a good recommendation for a good pair of athletic shoes, like a cross trainer within $50-$80 (I'm on a budget!) ? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I second Run On - there is one in Coppell, McKinney, Dallas and Richardson. You can also try Luke's Locker in Dallas - the staff at any of those stores will absolutely get you in the right running shoe. Good luck.

M.,

You really need to go try on a bunch of different brands. There is not one cross trainer that fits everyone. I would suggest you go to DSW and try on different brands with the thickness of sock that you will be wearing. Their prices are always pretty reasonable since they are normally last season or overstocks.

This may be far fetched but AVON sells Curves Sneakers. You can go onto the website for more information or I can send you a catalogue.

hi friend! we really enjoyed seeing y'all tonight! i am so amazed at how much grant has grown since we saw him last... and kate is just too cute! i can't wait for her and emma to really start playing together. anyway... i just wanted you to know that allen premium outlets has a nike and an addidas outlet store. we've gotten great shoes there. they'll help you figure out the fit and all, too. if you want, we can make a time to go up there together... i need some shoes and some new workout clothes since i'm REALLY gonna start my mission to "lose the baby fat" this summer! :) plus... they have TONS of other great stores too. the children's place, osh kosh, carter's, ralph lauren kids... lots of good stuff. we could make a "day" of it. :)

love you!

By far, New Balance are the best...the quality is unbeatable. My husband is a manager of a New Balance store, and they are a store where you will get the fit you need. Their salespeople size and fit you unlike you doing it on your own at Academy, DSW, etc... Anyway, they have a store behind the parks mall, off Hulen and 30, one in Southlake, Dallas, and Frisco if you want to check it out...New Balance DFW. You will pay more than $80 probably, but it is totally worth it!

Try Run On in McKinney. They have really knowledgeable sales people and may be able to help you. It may be $20 over your budget but very worth it.

last year i bought my first pair of brooks on overstock for $49. they are normally 100+. anyway, i started jogging and this was the first time my knees didn't hurt! the shoes are very supportive and made wide. i have a high arch and wide feet so i needed something good! after a while i realized i was never going to get that runner high-it actually made me more grumpy and tired so i switched to tae bo and my shoes are still great!!! i've seen them quite a bit on overstock so i'd check it out if i were you. i used to wear nike alot and have tried ryka(too narrow) and saucony none of them compare to brooks.
also, someone i know bought some and her orthopedic doc said he recommend brooks to all his patients!
hope this helped. good luck!!!

Just wanted to say first of all, I love New Balance athletic shoes!! But also, I went to a running store, and they told me most people need to buy about a size bigger than they usually wear, in a running shoe. I thought my other running shoes were perfectly fine in my normal size, until I tried on the size they suggested, and sure enough, it is soooo much better. So if you are going at this on your own, try 1/2 size to a full size up, just to see what you think. Your toes need plenty of space, without your heel slipping. Good luck, and great job working out! ~A.~

If you are running you really should go to a running store like Luke's Locker or Fort Worth Running Company and have them watch how you walk and tell you the best shoe. I didnt realize til I get plantar faciasitis (spelled wrong I'm sure) that I over pronated and needed motion control shoes. Same thing happened to my boyfriend. Some people need stability shoes, some need motion control and some are neutral and all require a different type of shoe. I learned the hard way.

As a person who just started running, I do have to agree with runners that shoes matter. I am about to go and have my gait analyzed and everything and invest in a good pair of running shoes, but am not having any pain, so it's more of a reward for me. Right now I'm running in New Balance that I got at TJMaxx. They usually have NB shoes in stock for around $30-40. I have bought several different styles there (I wear tennis shoes most of the time, even when not exercising) and have been very happy with them. Good luck with your exercising and running!

The best place that I found to buy shoes is at Run On in McKinney on Eldorado Parkway and Lake Forest(?). I think there is also a Run On somewhere near the Collin Creek Mall. They only sell shoes and know exactly how they should fit. I went there to buy a good pair of shoes and spent $90. I then went on the iternet to see if I could buy them cheaper and they were $90 on the internet stores as well. So, I don't feel as if I was ripped off and love the fact that 2 women actually took the time to make sure the shoes were fitting correctly and that I was happy with them. When I have to buy another pair I will be going there again.

Mizzuno's are by far the best athletic shoe for your feet. They have been proven to be therapeutic & not cause foot problems. I have a daughter in college that runs & works out everyday; she is a softball player & must stay fit. Her male friend that runs track recommended them. You can find them as low as $65-$70 on sale; she paid $90.00.

I would suggest, go visit "Run On" store. On Campbell rd ath the corner of Coit rd in Richardson. They make you walk bare feet to help determine what kind of athletic shoe you need. It's not your average store where teens who don't know what they're talking about try to sell you something wrong for you. They know their products! Well worth it!

You should try Luke's Locker or Run On. They will evaluate how you run and what your feet need, and will work with you on budget.

After teaching fitness classes for years & now just putzing around, I've come back to Rykas. They aren't that widely available, but I got my last pair at Famous Footwear. I also love Nike, but Ryka are wonderful & priced well... but every foot is different. So, just try on lots & keep in mind. You're probably better off getting a pair for running & a pair for fitness classes. I don't care what they say about cross-trainers- I'd never run in them! They are better for crossing sports on courts, not concrete. JMO!

As a personal trainer, I see a lot of clients that don't wear proper shoes. The biggest thing to keep in mind with running is to have good support in the arch and enough cushion to make running comfortable. For the fitness class you want to make sure you have good ankle support. Sometimes you can find both of these attributes in one shoe and sometimes not. Ryka, Avia, New Balance and Adidas are probably the best shoes I've had. I'm not a huge Nike fan, as I feel they are a bit overpriced for what you get. As long as you don't have any foot problems visit stores like Famous Footwear, Kohl's and other "discount" stores as you don't have to spend a lot of money to get good shoes...especially if you end up having to buy two pair.

There is a running store in Ft. Worth that does a similar test as the other poster mentioned where they put you on a treadmill and watch you walk and run. The test is free...their shoes are a little expensive, but even if you just buy one pair there, it's good to know where you stand with your stride, foot planting, etc.

Good luck and good for you for getting out there and getting active!!
