Athlete's Foot During Pregnancy??
I was just wondering if anyone has experienced athlete's foot during pregnancy? I'm 32 weeks pregnant and my foot has been itchy for the last few days. My husband looked at it and he thinks it's athlete's foot. I've never had it before and have no idea how I got it but am now wondering if there are safe medications I can use while pregnant. It's the weekend, so I doubt I'll be able to reach my OB. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had the exact same thing. I didn't use any medication, I just tried to wash my feet and dry them really good. It went away after I gave birth. I would also try to wear socks all the time, I noticed that my feet would itch a lot more if I wore shoes without socks. Hope it helps,

The number one thing you need to be aware of is that over the counter athlete's foot treatments can take up to six weeks to work. Have you looked at the ingredients...yuck! There are great healthy alternatives available out there. I am partnered with a company the specializes in non-toxic, environmentally friendly, more economical products. Send me a note and I will tell you more.

My feet got dry and scaly and itchy with each pregnancy. I personally believe it's due to partial dehydration. You need extra fluids when pregnant, and if you're not getting them, then it affects your body. It could be athlete's foot, though. Try scrubbing and hydration for a while. Then, if you think it's athlete's foot, Avon has a great spray for that.

Hi A.! Congrats on the 1st baby on the way. My son is 14 mos & its been quite a ride! :) I would talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using any medicine. Even topical. Just to be on the safe side. You could try the tea tree oil or soak your foot in hot water with Epsom salts. If you're sure its Athlete's Foot, you should make sure you keep your feet dry. It can also "live" in your shoes, so spray down your shoes with some of the Athlete's Foot spray. Maybe wash some flip flops to wear this weekend until you can speak to the doctor or nurse. I had Athlete's Foot a couple of times as a teenager when I played sports, its pretty annoying but it will go away easily with the over the counter stuff once you get cleared to use it. Best of luck & again congrats on the baby!!! You're in the home stretch! Enjoy these last two months of solitude. :)
Sincerely, A.

try an athletes foot anti-fungal cream (ex. lotrimin AF)-- get it at the groccery stor of pharmacy -- probably shouldn't be an issue since you're so late in your pregnancy -- in addition, i was advised to use the same cream on my babies (i have 3 - 2 boys, 1 girl) when they got yeast infections (fungal) in their diaper areas. you should notice an improvement within about 12-24 hours -- also, keep your foot dry --
you may also want to call one of the People's pharmacies -- they are REALLY good at providing remedies that carefully consider your pregnancy
good luck

any topical anti-fungal cream or spray should do the trick! i don't see why it wouldn't be safe to use since it's topical. OR you could first try just washing your feet really well and applying baby powder, and don't wear socks or shoes. you SHOULD spray an anti-fungal product on the soles of your shoes though, b/c if you get rid of the stuff on your feet, then stick your feet back in your shoes, the cycle will repeat! athlete's foot is usually caused by your feet being too moist and dirty. sweaty feet is common during pregnancy, so after the fungus is gone, keep baby powder on your feet, keep them clean, and don't wear shoes when you don't have to!

OH how annoying.
My OB prescribed Clotrimazole, or ,Monistat vaginal yeast infection cream, Since it is meant for the genital area it is a lot more sensitive, but gets the job done.
It works much faster than the foot creams and since it is not a spray there are no odors to get into your lungs. For your shoes, Wash them in the washer or sink.
Good Luck.
Just an after thought...but I wonder if this is why they came up with the term, "barefoot and pregnant" . HHHMMMM just wondering.

I was told by the pharmacist that the topical ointments are not absorbed through the skin. You might call the local Walgreens and ask your pharmacist.
Good luck
