My good friend suspects her son has aspbergers and she says her current doctor has dismissed her concerns for years (her son is 12 yo). She is just not sure what to do next. Any advice out there?

What can I do next?

We went to a Pediatric Neurologist, Dr. So(located in Plano). He was able to diagnosed my DS and recommend next steps. Hope this is helpful.

Hi S.,

I am a speech-language pathologist, and have had many clients whom have been thrilled with Dr. Genecov (I believe her first name is Lisa). Some others whom have also been highly recommended are:

Dr. Marilyn Montiero ###-###-####
Dr. Linda Fellini-Smith ###-###-####

Dr. Genecov usually has a VERY long waiting list.

I do not work with any of these people. I have just compiled names from both professionals and parents, in an effort to offer parents some direction.

I hope your friend finds the service she needs -- and good for her for trusting her instincts!

S.

A developmental pediatrican like Dr. Genecov is essentially a waste of time. Sorry - we saw her and I know many other parents who have taken their children there. She will do nothing to treat him, merely "diagnose" him. You may like to go to a neuro-psychologist - they specialize in Aspergers and many other syndromes that are very similar to this ont he autism spectrum, like Non-verbal language disorder - similar to aspergers, but a little different, etc. One such doctor is KIim Johnson ###-###-#### - she is in Dallas.

With Aspergers, social grous, possibly some sensory integration therapy (Occupational Therapy) and other not such widely know therapies may help. You can see Dr. Rao - a DAN doctor who will treat it from a biochemical way. You could also see someone at the Brain Training center or see Dr. David Rosenthal in Dallas, about working to "retrain" the deficiencies in the child's brain to help improve functioning.

Dr. Rao in Plano is very good, also she may want to learn about safer alternatives at www.LiveTotalWellness.com/TEXAS. Children with Aspergers should be kept away from all personal care items and home products containing toxins. It really improves their symptoms.
