Arlington Memorial Hospital-how Was Your Experience?

I will be delivering at Arlington Memorial Hospital, this coming winter. My sister had all four of her children there. Her first two delivery experience at AMH was great, but the last two was ok-this was about 4yrs ago.
I wanted to deliver at HEB Harris Methodist, and I've checked out some doctors that deliver at HEB Methodist, but still feel very comfortable with my doctor in Arlington.
So my question is---did you deliver your baby at Arlington Memorial, how was your experience, and how was the nursing staff there? I know the NICU is great. So I feel great about that.
Thanks,

BB

I had all three of my children there. I loved everything about it. I delivered in 1999,2002, and 2005. I had great experiences everytime. And I would and do recommend them to any and all of my friends to deliver there.

My experience was okay. It started out bumpy but improved...
I checked in around midnight before the cleaning crew had come in so there was some gross stuff in the bathroom...because I wasn't fully dialated they told me to walk around for an hour to see if I progressed, my water broke and when I came back to the room the cleaning crew HAD come through and the smell of bleach was so overpowering I was nauseaus (spelling?). they started to check me in which included starting an IV...the first nurse who tried to do this attempted THREE times before she finally asked someone else to do it, my husband almost punched her he was so upset. Once I was out of the Triage room and into my own room it went much smoother, I had two different nurses since I was there for a shift change but they were both EXCELLENT, even though the second one was working on her day off she was really nice and helpful. Our stay the next few days was also positive, my doctors that came to check on me made me feel a little like I was on a conveyor belt and they were just doing their rounds, but the nurses and Lactation Consultants were great. Just know that EVERYTHING costs something, from having the nursery watch your baby while you sleep at night to the lactation consultant, everything has a price tag. hope this was helpful :) good luck.
oh p.s. my sister is having her baby at Harris in October, so far she's liked her doctor etc...

I delivered my first daughter there 2 1/2 years ago and loved it! My labor and delivery nurse was AWESOME! They really take good care of you. I wouldn't recommend HEB, but my second daughter was delivered at Harris Downtown. My labor and delivery nurse was GREAT but the recovery nurses... not so much. SO, if you can deliver at AMH then go for it! Good luck!! : )

I had my son at AMH in May of 2005 and my Daughter in December of 2006. Both times I could not have asked for a better experience. The nursing staff and doctors were all absolutely wonderful. I would go back there in a heart beat again. I loved the smaller hospital atmoshere but apprecaited the technology they had avaialable as well. I felt that we were all very well cared for and truly cared about.
I wish you all the luck in the world on your upcoming delivery!

Hi, I delivered my son there in September 2004. Of my three deliveries (the others were in different states), it was probably the best. The nursing staff was very nice. I felt comfortable, and the atmosphere was great. The only problem I had was that the OB got there a little too late to actually deliver. My little guy was ready to come out and he wasn't waiting for anyone, so the nurse caught him as he was coming out and the doctor was walking in, lol! They also went to extra effort to get my husband in the room with me on time. He was over at the cafeteria getting our other boys something to eat when everyone realized the time was now. They called on the intercom, and even sent someone over on foot to get him. I was pleased about that. Hope this helps, and best of luck!

I had two deliveries at AMH. Both were such wonderful experiences! The nursing staff was friendly and attentive, the anestesiologist (sp?) was fabulous and prompt, etc. I also didn't want to breast feed and I asked the lactation nurse not to come visit me and they honored my wishes. I loved the experience and wouldn't have wanted to have my children anywhere else. Also, my husband and I were also both born there so it made it that much more meaningful!

I delivered my daughter at Arlington Memorial in February of this year. I was happy with the delivery. The only thing taht I didn't ;like was people coming in to take my blodd in the middle of th enight before and after my delivery. I guess that may happen at any hospital. The doctors and nurses were great and I would definitely use the same hospital again if I planned to have another baby, but I think little Ava is the first and last for me. :)

BB,
I realize I am responding late to your post but I wanted to share something with you. I am so happy you have to decided to deliver there. I worked at AMH in postpartum for 4 years and can honestly tell you they will take excellent care of you. I also wanted to clear something up for you. One lady responded that to beware that they charge for everything, including having your infant stay in the nursery. While hospitals do charge for 95% of what is done or given, with AMH being no exception, there is never a "charge" for each time you send your baby to the nursery. The hospital stay charge encompasses all the nursing care barring specialty care such as the NICU. If they charged for each time a baby went to the nursery, no one would ever send their baby!! Please, if you need to rest or take a shower send your little one down for a bit. There is no shame in that as some new moms tend to think. I am speaking to you as a former employee AND as a three time L/D/PP patient. I was not working there when I had my first 2 but was when I had my third. My second child was born profoundly disabled and had to be in the NICU for a week and I couldn't have been happier with his care. They are an AMAZING group of doctors and esp, the nurses. If God forbid you find your child needing to go rest assured that you are both in excellent hands! I would love to know when you are due and esp. what you think of your experience there once you deliver. I do want you to know that the ONLY reason I no longer work there is because I got married and moved to Lewisville and the 30 mile trip twice a day just wore me out, esp. the drive home after a 12 hour nightshift. I am going to be posting a similar question regarding Baylor Grapevine which is where I will be delivering in Jan. It will be so strange not to deliver at AMH where I am so comfortable and know the "lay of the land." Anyway, sorry so long winded. Take care and I hope your delivery is quick and as painless as possible and that your stay is everything you desire.

I have had 2 babies at AMH. I had my 2nd child there about 2 years ago. I was very happy with the nursing staff. They were great. My labor nurses were the best out of all the nurses. They were very understanding. They followed my birth plan as closely as they could. The only problem I had was after I had my daughter I was moved to another room and no one came to check on me for about 2-3 hours. Now, I did not call anyone, but with my 1st child, they were in to check on me as soon as I got to my room. Other than that my experience at AMH was great.

I had a great experience there (delivered on 9/15/05). The anesthesiologist (sp?) was timely and easy to find, the nursing staff was attentive and plentiful and the post deliver staff was great too. The only problem I had was on the first night, they would not give me additional cold packs (I had a 4th degree episiotomy)until I got ugly about it and basically told her to bill me for them. My husband spoke to the nursing manager the next day and all was taken care of. Other than that they were great. They honored my husband's wish not to cut the cord and didn't push me to breast feed which I appreciated. All in all, I remember it as a positive experience and hope you do too!
