Are Headphones Safe for 9 Month Old

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knew if headphones are okay to use with small children, and if so is there a special kind to use? Don't think I am crazy, I am just trying to minimize the Baby Einstein noise on our upcoming cross country flight.

Thanks for all your help,
T.

What can I do next?

I don't know about the safety of it, but I do know the airlines require them for any device that makes sound. I have a toddler who will keep them on and we forgot them once on a flight and the flight attendant made me turn the sound off entirely. I had it so low that I could barely hear it when she asked. It probably depends on how much of a stickler they are that day. I don't know if it helps, but my son will wear the ones that are a solid piece instead of the ear buds. He started out wearing it around the back of his neck instead of on top of his head. It also works best if you put the cord running down their backs so that they can't pull it. They adjust to a surprisingly small size. One thing nice about Baby Einstein is that it is entertaining for them to watch even if they can't hear it.

If you haven't flown with a baby before, remember to bring something for them to drink and eat during take off and landing. Since you can't bring liquids on a plane, you can bring an empty cup or bottle and they will give you a drink during seating. I always save something that my son loves for those times. Also, if you are nursing takeoff is a great time to nurse. It helps their ears and it has put my son to sleep many times for a good chunk of the flight. I have put in tons of miles with my son over the last three years, so if you have any other questions you can send them to me if you like. Sorry if I made this too long.

Good luck!

I'm not sure, it seems like it would be fine as long as it's not too loud. I know mine would never have kept them on his head, though.

Unless they were used alot and for long periods of time I don't think it would cause any damage. For a trip is just fine,if he keeps them on his head.

I would watch the sound level and use the large headphones that cover the ear, not the little ones that fit into the ear. This is only my opinion. I would think that earphones would be just fine as long as it isn't too loud. My now eleven year old son has used earphones since he was about 2 and was fine except he liked to play with the volume and would make it too loud.
Have fun traveling.

use the over the ear, not in the ear head phones, I am sure your doctor could help you use a guide to how high to use the volume. Id suggest to take the set up to the doctor, he can tell you what number or bar level to use..

dont forget to test them out to see if your baby will keep the headphones on.

I wouldn't bother. It might not be good for the ears no matter how low the volume is and being on a flight, the babies ears are going to be popping and feeling pressure anyways. Other passengers are just going to have to suck it up and deal with listening to Baby Einstein!! And if they don't like it, then they can put on their headphones and watch the in flight movie!

I agree with another mom the other folks need to suck it up because I don't think you are going to be able to keep them on the baby. I'd check with a doctor's office anyway before trying it. I really don't think they baby will keep them on.
