Are Double Strollers Worth the Purchase?

We have a 2 year old and a 7 month old and we're trying to decide whether we should invest in a double stroller or try to make do with 2 individual strollers? Is a double stroller a must have for traveling? If so, which is better, a side by side or tandem? It seems like the side by side might be tougher to navigate when shopping but it seems like one child gets jipped in a tandem stroller.

Hi K.

For the last year I have been using a Graco DuoGlide and at times it is a lifesaver! My oldest is 3 1/2 and still fits in the stroller. I take it whenever I know we'll do a bit of walking because he gets tired and wants in. He's up front so he can just get in and out on his own without my help. I strap him in if I don't want him to have that freedom but otherwise he's really good about getting in and out on his own. It's great at the zoo and other places like that.

HI K..
Brianna will be 2 Aug 8 and I am expecting any day. We are looking at the Joovy Caboose; Brianna will be able to stand up and 'navigate' or sit down.

It all really depends on your 2 year old. Will they hold your hand and walk? or are they a runner. If a stroller is a must have then I would go tandem. I have used many different kinds of double strollers and the side by sides were so hard to move through stores and doorways. I used the graco duo glide until my older child was just TOO big for it. Now I have a Joovy sit and stand and I love it. it's smaller than the graco and easy to move. Good luck

A double stroller is DEFINITELY worth purchasing!!! I used the tandem stroller because I found it more manageable to get around in stores, through doors and walking, without taking up everyone else's space. You definitely have more freedom using a double stroller. You won't always have someone else to help with separate strollers and if you need to go somewhere you can with the double stroller........all by yourself. The down side is the double stroller is bulkier and heavier than the single strollers but you do get used to it. It was a life saver for me having 3 boys ages 6,5 and 3. I'm glad I don't need a double stroller anymore but it sure was a life saver when I needed it with my children so close in age! Good luck!!

Well, I guess it depends on your lifestyle. If you usually have Daddy around to push the other stoller, then if it ain't broke....

BUT, I usually didn't have Daddy around when at the mall, etc. I'd get a Sit & Stand, I loved it and my oldest was much happier and you can use it longer.

I would have to say yes. I have a 5 year old and 2 year old. We got a Peg Perego Aria when my daughter was born. It was a lifesaver since my son was three and still wanted to sit in the stroller. We have used it for traveling as well as just walking around the neighborhood. It is lightweight and extremely easy to navigate with one hand. I would recommend testing them out at Babies r Us or a similar store by putting your two kids in it. My son picked this stroller, we used a diaper bag to represent the baby at the time. I like the side by side better, I am short and the tandem ones were just too hard to navigate.
Good Luck.
